Major Graphics Problem - FFXI

I'm using a Geforce4 MX 4000 - PCI graphics card. Everything in the Environment runs smoothly except the character. The character's body parts sometimes dissapear then re-appear, it's really annoying. And sometimes it gets soo bad that the only thing you'll be able to see is the Head and a Black square for the Shield. Please help if you know how!

Ouch....Mx 4000...do you have the latest drivers for it?
Posted by: Medieval
yes i do, but yet.. that kinda makes it worse. I have the 61.77 Nvidia driver. But that makes it to where all the lines go crazy when i go to select a character. I guess this video card just won't run FFXI.. 30 bucks down the drain.. =\
p.s. the Mx 4000's tech support... jesus these people are so stupid. -.-

try playing wiht the video options, turning off certian options , try different resolutions, ect. if not check your videocard options for D3d and make sure you have the newest directX and such
If all else fails, get an ati =P

Try shift it to another PCI slot, as far away from the soundcard etc. as you can.
You can also try this modified driver and see if that help?
Vstudios Xtreme G 71.24 a
You can find it here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/
I use that one for my FX 5900 XT. 128 mb. The driver makes the games run smoother and improve the image quality.
But before you install any new driver. Download NV cleaner ( you also find it at Guru 3 D) and get rid of bits and pieces of any old drivers.
Can't promise you that this driver will help. But it's worth a try.

I reckon it's because it's in a PCI slot, i've got nothing to back that up, but i would think that most games these days would be expecting to use an AGP card. If you've got an AGP card, cram it in there and see if it does the same thing, even if it runs slowly, at least you'll know what the problem is.

i dont think that would be the case, in this day in age, programs are writen to interface with the driver, not the actual hardware.. It shouldnt matter at all.. PCI is a perfectly fine slot for a video card. i dont see the advantage to having a PCI card though? the PCI bus is alot slower than the AGP slot and kind of defeats the purpose of having a faster video card? i would invest some money in a AGP card either way.. maybe get yourself a radeon 9000 or something. you could probably even get away with getting a 7000 or something even.
The only thing that would accomplish is that you would know that its a problem with the current video card, not that its a PCI issue. If you wanted to be sure it was a PCI issue youd have to test multiple PCI vs AGP versions of different cards.

I did'nt think about it until today. (Slow thinker, maybe age? lol) But could it have anything to do, with the 64 mb memory on the MX 4000 PCI ? If that 's the kind of memory you got on your card?
That seems to me, a small memory , playing todays demanding games.

it is a small amount of ram but, FFXI runs on a PS2, so im sure a geforce 4 MX can handle the game. The hardware in a PS2 isnt better that that.

Beeing an old dude I did'nt realised that we were talking Final Fantasy and Playstation here?
Then this tread is in the wrong community? huh.

No, there are 2 versions of FFXI, but almost identical. One is for PS2 and one is for PC. Both connect to the same server and are almost identical. The ps2 one is even installed on a special HDD.
the only difference is that the PS2 can only work at 640X480 due to the television format and cannot be installed on a computer due to ps2's unique hardware.
