Sell/Trade in Forum

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I would like to see a sell/trade section like a lot of the forums have like Anandtech and Futuremark. Heatwave and ebay keep people from getting ripped and it is a good way to get new parts that you want.

in my opinion, for the size of this site. it would be alot more trouble than it is worth. troll and legal and maintanance wise.

well, it's a nice idea, but I stick to my original reasons for not doing it:

Anyone want to buy some of my old CPUs motherboards or RAM? They overclock pretty well

hmm.. now that I think about it, I should really sell some of this stuff before they completely depreciate of value. Guess I'll throw some stuff on eBay

im still holding onto an orginial ps xenogears to sell, i was a dumbass not to sell it when it was worth $140.

EOT(US) had a good idea from the link you posted Laggy. What about something like a forum classified section? Would you have to worry about legal hassles?

Posted by: Canis Lupus

It would be nice, but it opens a can of worms when problems arise during transactions.

People who get ripped off will be insistent that the owner of the site take action - and right now the only thing OTS can do is disable/ban/suspend someone's account, not get the product or money back. I don't want to have to subject myself to that kind of hassle Sure, I can put disclaimers saying we're not responsible for transaction problems, but that doesn't really stop the emails from coming in asking that we do something about it

Yes, it might still have legal ramifications for the site, and being a non-profit entity, I don't want OTS to be introduced to that kind of hassle

I know I'm being paranoid here, but it's better to play it safe for the sake of this site

yeah i wanted to see one of these too BUT laggy veto'ed it, both times

www.ebay.com

Posted by: Ocean

is there a site where only OTS members could all make like a mini-trade forum. that would be part of the fs ft site. and laggy could invite people?

not necessarily on the public side of OTS, but maybe a private section of a site which is devoted just for fs ft etc.

i would be more likely to sell it to someone who wont bitch because they dont know whether or not it is compatable and will know how to install it. (before they buy it.) that alone would make it worth selling at a discounted price to OTS regulars.

There could be rules that you have to have a certain amount of post to trade. Or have been a member for so long. It could have a seperate login given after a certain amount of time. Anandtech has a free section where people who have parts they want to give away can post. What would be wrong with a section like this.

We don't have the number of regular, experienced users that Anandtech does.

It doesn't take a lot of people to have a forum like this. Even www.Techwarelabs.com
has a sell/trade forum. http://www.techwarelabs.com/communi...wforum.php?f=12

quoted for emphasis on why I have doubts with this idea...

My misgivings isn't on "who" can participate in the buy/sell, but on what actually "happens" if there is a breakdown in communication or transaction between the two possible parties. I don't really care how Anandtech or other sites do it - it's VERY VERY EASY to set up a buy/sell forum. Moderating and maintaining it is the one I am a little squeamish about, as it will open an unwanted can of worms.

The last thing I want is for someone to ask me to reveal someone's personal details because they suspect that person has swindled another party out of their hard-earned money. As much as I want to please everyone who wants something convenient in this site, I have to put the goals of this site above all else.

Maybe I will change my mind in the future about this thing, but for now, my reasons for not doing so remain. My apologies to those who resent my opinion.
