After loading a version of doom 3 from a "FRIEND"and getting nowhere with it,i bought a legitimate version!.I cleared all references to the old version by removing via add/remove,and searching for all files/folders in the search mode.
I tried to install doom but a dialouge box appeared on installation, informing me i had a version allready installed?,and the install ended there!.
the old version has lefta doom 3 icon in add/remove and i cant remove it.i have tried a program to uninstall left overs in add/remove but it doesnt see it in there?.If i go into add/remove it is still there????????.I would obviously think there is something from the old version lurking in the system stopping the install?.
Could someone please help.

If you go to add/remove programs and remove it then you can go to you %systemroot% drive (usually C and just delete the doom3 folder.
If this doesn't work use System Mechanic or Registry Mechanic and see if they can force your registry to update the change.
Another you may want to try:
Insert your Windows XP disk and open up DOS. Type this is:
SFC -SCANNOW
this will force the machine to check all of it's protected system files. If it finds any that are damaged it will replace them with known good one. If it finds any that are missing it will replace them with known goods.
I hope this helps you out.
