QuickRestore Compaq presario 5838 will not run

I tried to run the Quickrestore, because my compter would only run in 'safe mode' WIN98.
I had to boot from the CD, and it seemd to work, becuse the reatore program started ok. But when aprox. 46 % of the programmes are restored, it leaves the programme and shows a blank screen. After a while A:\> is shown on the screen. Why won't the quickresore run ?

Bad CD or drive. Memory issues. The list of potential hardware causes is long.
Did you make sure you selected the format and restore option?
