Pagefile deadlock

I have a problem with the page file, sounds a little like the same problem as described here, http://www.opentechsupport.net/foru...hlight=pagefile
(unfortunate with no solution). Im stuck, i have figured out that i can make 3 configurations;
1) Leave the initial 959 mb pagefile on the c: drive and dont bother about it
2) Resize it to no less than 50 mb
3) Have no pagefile at all
Whenever i change the pagefiles location ill get the "reboot to make changes" dialog, if i look at the drives with explorer before rebooting i can even see the newly created pagefile on whatever drive i made it on, but as soon as the reboot has finished im stuck with a pagefile of 959mb on the c: drive, plus whatever i decided to make on any other drives. These other pagefiles (not the c: one) are listed as beeing there, both in the manage console and if i look in the registry, but i can delete them with a single click of the mouse and they are not used in any way, they will even stay listed both places after i delete them and reboot.
Quite contrary if i delete the pagefile on the c: drive (from the console), itll be gone from the registry, gone from the console, but still actually be there on the drive and be in full use.
I just dont get it, i had this problem for quite a while, now and then i stop wondering about it, but when i make a new install it pops up again. This problem happens on a brand new win xp pro install, sp2 installed, asus a7n8x motherboard, 4ide drives and 2 sata drives (and i tried placing the pagefile on all of them with the same result).
Considering the microsoft pages i tried leaving the default driver for the ide controller, i tried the mhcp2 (or something) nvidia driver that was originally shipped with my motherboard and i tried the brand new 5.10 nvidia driver pack ide driver. And i tried removing them, all three, to see if the trubblle just went away as the ms page supposed, when the plug and pray thing found the drives again...all to no avail.
Anyone who has any ideas? Im stuck

you dont say what your system specs are. but 3 is out unless you have 2g of ram or more, with a fast cpu. 1 is perfectly reasonable, thats not a horrendous size. just clear it periodically. you can resize it all you want, these arent permanent settings.
have you tried using another program that sets the page file size?
