Having problems with LAN. It used to work!

Ok, to start off, comp1 is connected to a hub with an RJ-45 in the first port of the hub... Comp2 is connected to the same hub with another RJ-45 in the last port of the hub...
The reason comp2 is hooked into the last port is because there is a switch pointing to the last port that says "to hub" in one position, and "to comp" in the other position (the switch is in the "to comp" position).
Now keep in mind that this configuration worked just fine like 3 days ago. But now they ran into a problem or something. The network bridge on comp1 says "network cable unplugged", but the network bridge on comp2 seems to be just fine, and the 1394 and Local Area Network connections (the connections that are bridged) on both comps seem to be just fine.
Anyway the problem I have is that when I try to access the "SharedDocs" folder of either comp from the other comp, I get this error: "\\(computer name)\SharedDocs is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions..." (these folders on each computer are being shared) "A device attached to the system is not functioning."
I am also not able to access comp2's shared internet connection with comp1. My internet connection is a dial-up connection (56k, don't laugh). I don't know if that helps you though. Anyways thanks in advance.

Have you tried rebooting the computers and power cycling the hub? Sounds hardware related.

Yes I have rebooted the comps many times, but power cycling the hub? I don't even know what that is. Could you please explain how to do this?

Your problem is comp1 says 'network cable unplugged' (I assume you have looked and the cable is NOT unplugged :-). Until you fix that, comp1 will not be able to get to the LAN (and comp2 will not see 1).
OK, it USED to work, so we start by assuming something has gone wrong (you DIDN'T change anything did you ? like, un-install the drivers, set the link to 'disabled' or something ?)
OK, it's nothing your did then - well Comp1 says it's the cable - so start be checking the cable. Bast way - swap the cable with comp2. If the fault goes with the cable get a new cable. If not, then the cable is OK.
So, cable is OK - maybe it's the hub socket ? - move comp1 cable to the next available socket position in the Hub.
- still no-go ?
well maybe it's the network card. Are the network cards in comp1 & 2 identical ? (eg. are they both 3c905's or whatever ?) if so, you can swap the cards without too much trouble with driver complaints etc.
If not then swapping the cards is going to mean making sure the correct drivers are installed ...
If it's still not fixed it COULD just about be the hub.
Get hold of a 'swap-over' cable. This allows you to connect direct from one computer to another without going via the Hub.
Still no connection ? .... I give up

I fixed it! The whole time I was messing with ways to fix it, I was thinking in the back of my mind that the problem was just with the network bridge itself on comp1. I had tried to delete it but it kept saying, "An unexpected error has occoured... Cannot delete". So yesterday I was doing other things, and I happened to go to the device manager. I saw that the network bridge was right there under Network Adapters.
So I deleted it from there and now it works fine. I have no idea how it got screwed up in the first place, but whatever. Thank you guys for your help, and if someone doesn't mind, I'd still like to know what power cycling the hub is / how to do it. It could help me in the future. Thanks again.
