Slow shutdown of PC

This one is weird. I am running AMD XP 3200+ with 1GIG Ram, so speed is not a problem with this machine. My problem is, when I go to Restart/Shutdown my computer, my desktop vanishes, but then a light blue screen sits there for about 20 seconds before shutting down. My brothers system is running at 2500+ with 512 DDR, and his shuts down completely within 5 seconds. Any thoughts?

There's probablty a program that runs at startup that isn't shutting down properly. Try shutting down all unnecessary programs before shuttting down (Including virus scanner) and see if it is able to shut down quicker. If it does, then you should be able to identify the offending program by process of elimination.

20 seconds isnt horrendous. as said above, theres some program thats taking a long time to clear out. usually its the AV or firewall. you can run maintenance programs and see if they help, as well as disabling unneeded xp serives, but youre most likely stuck with it.
