pc2700 vs pc 2100

I recently bought a dell 600m on ebay and decided to upgrade the memory to 1GB. Every site I went to recommended using pc2100 even though intel says that the pentium m supports pc2700. Is this just to save power? Will this system perform better with the faster memory? When I opened it up, there was 512mb of samsung ddr sdram pc2700. I contacted dell support and got the run around with no definite answer.
system specs:
1.6ghz p-m
32mb video
1GB ram from crucial
30Gb hd
24X combo drive

Yes it will perform better, I can only assume that they just think that the 2700 isn't wirth the extra money but these days we're talking about a $10 price increase if you get one stick, maybe a little more than that if you buy a whole gig.

the 2700 is the same type of ram, just manufactured better so it can work faster without burning up.

when you put in that pc, you are just underclocking it.

it will provide benefits if you upgrade your chip to something with a 333 fsb as opposed to your current chip's 266 fsb.

3500-3200-2700-2100 all work the same on a 266 fsb speed. the number refers to how fast you can crank them up. since you have 2700 ram, i would say just get more 2700 ram, which will allow a cpu upgrade in the future if you would like.

I thought that all pentium m processors had a 333mhz fsb. Older inspiron 600m's came with the faster memory. Do I have bad info or did something change?
