My C: drive is labeled "Removable" by W98

Somehow my wife, kid, dog or CIA agent dropped by my HP "pavilion" and changed the properties of my hard drive...

In all the PC's I've ever touched, the first hardrive is labeled "Local Disk (C)". This is good, the way it should be....the way God ordained it to be. Well maybe not God but certainly Bill Gates..

Somehow my sorry Pavilion rebeled againts the ordained and decided to label the hard drive as:
"Removable Disk (C)".

In itself this posses no real significance...after all they're just words....who cares, removable or not... as long as W98 chugs along what difference does it make?

Well along come buffons from Symantec and decided their software should only and only be installed on the "Local Disk" and certainly not on any "terroristic tool" drive that mentions "Removable Disk". After all, they did not want my kids playng frisbee with a "Removable Disk" that contained their precious antivirus executable.

Is it possible to change my hard disk back to the way Bill Gates ordained it?........ Maybe
Is it possible to get Symantec to stop releasing applications obviously coded by anal retentive programmers? I think not...

Any clues ..........let me know.

Well I belive that you have OS problem to start with or hdd cluster problem.
Run scan disk, defrag and spybot mo make sure that the OS is running OK.
Check via device manager that all the devices are OK.
Run registry cleaner to correct the windows registry.
If your OS is Windows 98 download all the updates from the microsoft update and isnstall them.
N.B. IF the OS or hdd is damaged no update from Microsoft will fix anything.

The Symantec software does cause problems IF the OS or some other programs have already damaged the OS. It is not a correct way to fix any OS or programs by adding extra security programs on top of it, especially if the specs do not match.

And to the rest of your comments as (now res. mil) I agree that certain organisation do cause lots of problems.

Hi,
I just read your post about your C drive being reset to removable.

It's an easy fix.

In your START menu, go to Settings,Control Panel , then double-click SYSTEM.

Click the DEVICE MANAGER tab. Then locate your hard drive icon. Double-click on the icon. In the new window, you'll see Settings. Clcik on it. When the settings window opens, you'll see that "removable" has a check mark beside it. UNCHECK it, then close all and reboot.

You'll be back to normal.

If you don't do this, you may not be able to load apps from a CD.

Good luck,
Schvitz
