The Everquest 2 Thread

Thought I would start up a thread to see who is playing Everquest 2, and where! Spider and I are both playing on the 'Crushbone' server. I am Magnos, and I can't remember how he spelled the oddity that is his name.
Post your character name and server so we can get some groups started up and kill things, then take their gold.

Yeah Spider and I are friends in the real world, I know that Spider is gonna give WoW a shot; he is trying to drag me into it too. Not sure if I want to play two MMO's though.

Now come on now. While I know a lot of us got a hardon for World of Warcraft, a lot of us played EQ and let me tell you, EQ2 is way cool. And by way cool, I mean flaming ninja cool.
You know you want to try it. Come on, give it a shot!
Oh, and by 'gold,' Camical means, 'copper.'
The economy in this game, is the best I've ever seen in an MMO, ever.

Yeah that's me. I just upgraded the crap out of my PC...spent way too much money.

I very much doubt I will play EQ2, despite 4.5yrs in EQ. My major beef is spawn contention, which was horrendous in EQ for Named mobs in group zones and even worse for Raid mobs.
Just curious. Anyone know if they have a better system in place for Raid content and spawn contention?

Yes there is a better system.
Lets say that you get a quest to go and kill a dragon, and he will drop a reward for your hard work in the quest. Instead of going to the zone and hoping he will pop (while competing with others for him, Ragefire anyone?) the game opens up a seperate zone for your encounter, so just you and your raid party go into the zone. If you wipe, the NPC will port you back in again. The same goes for all the zones as well, once a certain amount of people are in a zone, it opens up another location for that zone. So you could have 'The Commons' 1, 2, 3, and 4. This spreads out the population, so there aren't 100 people killing the same group of Orc Scouts in one area. Every issue that Everquest had, they have a solution for in EQ 2. This game in my opinion is much more catered to the casual player than EQ1, and it provides a much more enteraining experiance than logging on and shouting "65 Shadowknight LFG", there is always something to do and a quest to fullfill. This game is freaking awesome, before shooting it down, read about it. There are a ton of web sites with info on all this stuff.

Actually, I have asked this same question in a few different places and this is the first informative relpy I have heard.
So there are no Named mobs in common areas? Or Raid mobs? They all occur in instances that are Quest triggered?
As for reading about it, I prefer to get my info from friends. None of my friends will touch EQ2, so I have a shortage of good info. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. 8)

Beta tested wow and got very tired of it quick. Beta'd eq2 4 days before it went live and now I am playing it live and while it has some problems I am enjoying it (and the servers are packed..and there are lots of servers).

Sorry spider bud. didn't know. Chose Blackburrow because a RL friend is on it and I share the account with my brother (we play on his computer). Wish I had known.
edit: Anyone still playing EQ2? hehe. I still like it although I am soloing and the grinding is getting old.

Playing all the time, only on a better server.
I've got a 20 Berserker, 14 Wizard, and a 14 Shaman.
Drop me a line, they're Ymir, Brohim and Kaylib.
Though I don't play the shaman that much. Priests are wicked lame. Who wants to sit around and just heal people? I just started the Mage class a few days ago. Wicked easy to get to around 12. Only a few hours.

Would if I had an xtra slot for a character (and after todays uproar in the game who knows how long I will be playing) but even if I did there is no way I want to start over. hehe.

Still playing. Servers are very busy. Good game if you like to group. Playing a warlock now and having quite a bit more fun. SOE tried to force grouping and saddled it with group shared debt (a major error in my view) to which I am hoping they see the error of their ways and modify it a bit. It could be a great game with some tweaking (and removal of some flawed ideas).
