D2 CD-Key Question

Ok, me and my brother have 2 D2 and 2 LoD cdkeys (so we can play together). The trouble is we can't. I have installed D2 and LoD many times and tried each combination. Unfortunately I believe that the D2 and LoD CD-Key I used to install the game the first time are still being used for the registry. If my assumption is correct I need a SAFE CD-Key Changer. If not... wtf?

you are trying to install two seperate versions on one computer???

When you install the game, the CD-key is kept in one of the .mpq files in the game directory. When you uninstall the game, the .mpq file is removed and you can install with a new CD-key. What happens when you guys try to play together?
