i have a asus p2b-ds dual slot 1 motherboard. the memory is pc100, so what is the biggest cpu tha uses pc100 memory, and will i see a difference if i use a scsi harddrive over a regular harddrive?

I think the highest they got in Slot 1 was 1.2 Ghz. I doubt you'll be able to get anything that fast to run though. I would E Mail Asus tech support. They could probably tell you the fastest Pentium 3 your board will support. Probably nothing over 600Mhz but you never know.

If you can get a good deal, SCSI would be a lot faster. It might be wise to check to make sure the hard drive you're looking at will work with your SCSI controller though. Hard drives have changed a lot in the last 6 years.

a scsi hard drive and new cpu for that board will cost you almost as much as a new system. much better use of the money to put it towards a low end dell or something similar.

Depends. Those P3's sell for around 5$ a piece on ebay. As for the hard drive, I think it would help alot since his pc is probably somekind of server.

cheapest scsi hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-116-132&depa=1
cheapest controller that will run the drive on pci:

then add the cable and youre up to $300

It has onboard SCSI.

but it wont work with the drives out now, different format. drives are scsi3, that board would be scsi2 at best.
