DirectX problem

Hi
I've got that problem where you run the sims2 and it gives you that weird directx compatible graphics error message. I've got an Intel 82810E graphics controller. I seriously need help. It's an expensive game and i'd appreciate some replies. I've already installed directx 9.0, rebooted, but the properties of my graphics controller continues to say I have direct x 8.0. Please help

...your video card chipset is not supported by the game. Get a video card with a supported chipset, install the latest drivers for it and try again.
