i cant play it either. i only have a 2.2Ghz athlon 3200+

sucks for all those athlon 64 owners too i guess. if they are saying you need a 2.4Ghz processor, that really sucks ass.

Posted by: armystud0911

Actually, the 64s will be the ones kicking tail as always, here are the actaual REQUIREMENTS not RECOMMENDATIONS
# --Required
# Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
# 1.2 Ghz processor
# 256 MB of RAM
# DirectX 7 compatible graphics card

As with any game the syatem requirements' clock speed refers to intel speeds and AMD equivalents.

Just bought it and am installing it now. CS:Source b4 i even play hl2.

Posted by: SKYHN

Im waiting to buy it after I build my A64 system

Posted by: Superfly3176

Its taking so forever. Steam is gay lets register serials. and jam servers.

Update: wow after i registered i have more downloading.

Posted by: Maverick

2.4 is reccomended, and 1.2 is required? Wow.. this is really going to put a strain on my 1.83 Barton...

Posted by: Ion Silverbolt

Your Barton is fast enough. You can't go by Ghz clock with AMD processors. Hence the XP rating. XP2500 Barton would be equivelent to 2.5Ghz.

Posted by: armystud0911

enough about specs, AMD's will do great yadayadaya, has anyone actually PLAYED it yet? I'm dying to know!

Posted by: Ion Silverbolt

Well, from what I have read, a ton of people think it's the best game ever. The other half are pissed because they can't get steam to authenticate their CD-key.

I hope a patch comes out that disables the connection to steam. You can't even play single player without it connecting to steam first unless you go out of your way and disable your Internet connection. How retarded is that?

Posted by: SKYHN

It is pretty dumb, it was cracked about a week ago.

Devs are taking authentication to prevent piracy a bit too far. When it causes LEGIT copies not to function or have problems, its time to tone it down.

Posted by: Ion Silverbolt

A lot of people are looking for cracks right now just to get legit copies to work. Steam is a complete failure.

Posted by: SKYHN

I had to do that for UT2k4

Kept saying 'please insert disc'. I had the DVD Collectors Edition. Went to the official 2k4 boards and almost everybody there was having the same problem. Someone linked to a no disc crack, problem solved.

I went to Best Buy, bought it and installed it, then got steam to register my account and I was off. I'm on chapter 3 already and it's just mindblowing fun. The physics are amazing and the graphics are just WOW! Even on my system it runs great on high settings. The game is so well optomized it runs well on a lot of systems. I can't wait for the mods to this engine. Gonna be awesome. The things they can do with the physics and the vehicle code....wow. The people look amazingly detailed. It's just been top notch so far.

Like I said it runs perfect on my machine which isn't top of the line:

AMD 2600+ (2Ghz)
2x512mb DDR
128mb GeForce Ti4200 (AGP)

Posted by: Superfly3176

They didnt authenticate my key but they let me like pre-play. All I can say, is the cs:source models are flimsy, they are like gumby. The guns are also over accurate and over powerful.

And you can jump like crazy. Not quite sure what i think yet only had 1/2 hour to play, and didnt play actual hl2 yet.

Posted by: uh...ok

I was torn between wanting the CD/Box/Manual and buying from retail stores and saying "FU" to Vivendi and buying directly off Steam. I'd rather Valve get a bigger cut of my money anyway...

Then I loaded up Steam and noticed the $60 pricetag on HL-Silver. And that it's just as expensive (if not more, due to in-store discounts at a lot of places) to download a "soft" version of the game as it is to actually buy the game. (A friend of mine also pointed out that my money ends up in Vivendi's pockets one way or another anyway...)

And the general consensus is that Steam sucks, and downloading 5 discs worth of game is not my idea of fun.

Until Valve improves the way they distribute games without the publisher, they still have a long way to go before customers will start buying directly online with faith.

Or maybe I'm just too old-fashioned with the whole wanting a CD/Box/Manual thing. But to me that seems to be an integral part of what "buying a game" means... perhaps this just means that a paradigm shift is called for...

The CS:Source is nothing like the detail and graphics that are in HL2. The models in HL2 are absolutely stunning, especially the facial features.

*runs back to playing*

Okay my first impressions of halflife 2 were WOW. started walking around and thought "whats running in the background" Turned down the graphics and still wow. I gotta scan my system though see what is running.

I'm about 2 hrs into it and its amazing.
