What's with gaming support these days?

I just got Serious Same today and it won't run in Windows 2000 on my machine. First thing I go to do is to check for the latest patch. Great, it's up to 1.02 with a lot of fixes. WRONG!

The patch download location is referred to fileplanet. wtf? I shouldn't have to fill in any login or other retarded thing just to get a game patch for a game I bought. Besides that, the download location currently loads a blank screen.

I finally got the patch by doing a net search. 2 other places also had broken links. I finally got the patch from a freaking Italian site. I still don't know if the patch will help or not. I'll find out soon enough.

Blizzard has also been doing this with their patches too. The last link in their list is the one that downloads straight from them. All I can guess is, bandwidth is expensive.

Well the latest 21.81 detonator took care of it. Been playing this game for 2 hours without a problem. Cool game for 20$. Maybe that's why they can't afford file servers..hehe

Agreed. I do not like where the gaming industry is going with their support. For one, Sierra has crappie patch support. You can't download any of their patches off of their web site. They are buried if you do find them, etc....As for fileplanet....I refuse to login for something that I should be able to get off of the publishers web page for a product that I bought, that should have worked as advertised, etc.....

The login thing with file planet seems random.

Sometimes I'll try and download something and it will give me that, later on I'll try the same file and it will go.

agreed though, fileplanet sucks hard.

are you using netscape to view the download page on file planet ion?
i get a blank page too
but if i go paint the exterior of my house and come back to the pc later the page is loaded - theres a buncha bogus scripts runnin on the page so it takes forever to process - even in ie, though i dont think the wait is not as long

i guess i dont mind getting product updates from sites that arent run by the product maker....bandwidth is expensive and all, but they better damn well be virus free when i go to download

as for the title of this thread "What's with gaming support these days?" ...
the new cs patch is out
it came with 0 documentation to explain any of the new features or how to do one damn thing - theres no information on their website either
you go over to the counter-strike.net forums looking for tech support or a place to ask questions and all you find is crap
i think i saw one of the 30 moderators close 3 tech support related threads in the tech support forum without even bringing up the problem the person was having - one time a moderator even said, "the problem is cleary with your machine so you should look elsewhere for help", and closed the thread - that is astoundingly lame...i think i blew a gasket or something when i refreshed and seen the topic closed

valve released their patch with 1 readme file which came with explanations of a few variables and about the spectator mode, but no instructions on how to do anything - how to host or join
you're just supposed to have a brain and be able to figure it out by fiddling with it apparently

theres more - but thats enough for now
