Office Jet V40 error

I just bought a new black cartridge for my OfficeJet V40, and three days ago threw away the old color and black ink cartridges. But once I put in the black cartridge, it says "INSERT COLOR CARTRIDGE" IS there anyway for me to bypass this somehow to just operate on black ink?
