Onboard Sound Vs. Sound Cards which to use?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a AMD Delta K7N2 motherboard with the integrated 5.1 sound, is that better than a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card?

Onboard sound uses the CPU to process. Most soundcards process the sound on the card itself and use very little CPU power.

Ok, I meant then, which one SHOULD I use for better sound quality?

nforce2 and later boards will provide you with perfectly good sound for most purposes, like games and mp3s. a sound card can give you some more options if you need them, and audiophile quality sound. thats at a hefty price though, a sound blaster live wont do that

All that for nothing lol can't hook up a joystick to the computer without having the sound card in since the joypad isn't USB

if you have the sound card, use it.

Several stores are going to have SB Audigy2 for $34.99 on black friday. Maybe go and try your luck.
