How are Prince of Persia and Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 on the list of non-violent games? You kill people in both of them. Maybe because of no blood?(isnt there blood in PoP?)

Hello
Well if they have been rated as the most violent games like DOOM 3 and Half Life 2, they might ban them in the uk, there as been loads of arguements about this, especially since this lad tried to emulate one of the games then got killed, the mother is campaigning to have these games banned that are deamed as being violent, and support is growing all the time, that would be bad news to the game industry in the uk, because there are a lot of violent games about, and i can't see why they should ban them, plus that kid that died i think it was the mothers fault, since the game was for an 18 year old, it said 18 on the packet, he was 13 years old, so she was wrong to let him have the gam in the first place, but she is blaming the games industry for the death of her child. The problem is that women do not admit to there mistakes, Even the games industry would not let her judgement interfere with the games industry.
You might has well give the child access to a porn show on tv then, since that porn network on tv is rated 18, but the boy is 13 whatever, and that is same thing in a way.
I think the law should be changed in the uk and that women should be held accountable for her actions. There are not enough laws for women, but to many silly laws for men, that is prejudgice. because men are held accountable for there actions but not women they get away with it.
Regards
Andrew

You know their on crack when they start offering football as a "non-violent" alternative.

Er, Andrew, you sound a little sexist, but I get what you're saying. The problem is, if a kid is stupid enough to attempt to "remake" any scene of any game like that, they deserve to get killed. Yes, harsh words, but I'd say that to the mother's face if I could.
If any being is retarded enough to attempt to try it, they DESERVE to be killed. Even at 13, you possess enough common sense and logic for that.

i want to move to the uk, as all their laws seem to pertain only to males. i want to be able to beat people up and murder them without punishment.

I disagree. Just because he was 13 does't mean the mother was wrong to let her kid have it. The age things are just guidelines, not rules. If the parents feel the kids are mature enough to play the games without doing anything stupid, then by all means let them play it, juts keep assuring them that games are fantasy. That's how it has always been for my parents. I've been playing mature 17+ rated games since I was 14 I believe. But my parents and myself concluded that I was mature enough to handle the game. Grand Theft Auto for example, a very brutal game. Yet under proper guidance I don't believe this game would cause any mass murders or anything. As long as the kid knows it is FANTASY it's ok. I play games like that and Medal of Honor, them some Final Fantasy, those games don't make me want to grap my step-dad's AK-47 and go shoot people in the face or make me think I can summon Ifrit to blow my enemies (very few if any) up in a big ball of fire.
In the case of this child, I do agree the mother faulted in thinking her kid could handle the game, because obviously he couldn't. And I am not in favor of just buying a kid any game he wants without the parents first making sure their kid(s) can handle it, and I don't mean by just asking questions, I also mean by using the kid's personality, because most parents know their kids the best, and they should know if the kid has the mind to kill people. Parents should also have gotten the concept of right and wrong into the kid's mind when they were a child, so when the kid sees a little old lady crossing the street in a game like GTA, and when they run over said little old lady and they laugh when there's no consequences they should know that it's wrong to do that in real life and if they do they WILL get caught.

EDIT: to keep this relevant to the topic, I don't think banning violent games in the UK is a good idea at all. One reason is that I know probably some people, including myself, use games as a get-away-from-everything hobby, and violent games sadly make up at least half if not more of the games industry, i.e. there's always killing, whether it be in Medal of Honor or Final Fantasy. So if these games go away and good law-abiding citizens don't go to the "black market" for violent games, then one way of taking out anger is gone.
Another reason not to take away the games is that would punish everyone else who IS mature enough to play the games, and I don't believe in punishing everyone for one person's mistake.
And one more thing, that woman WAS held accountable for her actions, she DID pay for them. She lost her son, I think that is payment enough. She is just now in an anger stage and doesn't know what else to do, so she's doing this now, which I believe is wrong.
that's it i think

guess what? people raped, pillaged, and murdered long before video games, tv, or even newspapers were invented. and in probably higher numbers than they do now. so its patently ludicrious to blame children or adults being violent on these things.

i agree, i do not believe games, movies, etc make people want to commit crimes, that's just an excuse

I believe there (can) be an issue with some of these games on (some) minds. I myself LOVE all the current stable of games (D3,HL2 etc) but my 14yo going on 20 nephew has slight autism and is allowed to play these with little or no supervision. Fine normally, but he tends to latch on to things and unfortunately killing (game style) is all he can talk about atm... So yes, keep the games coming but PLEASE have parents responsible enough for their childs actions.
Funny thing seen on xmas day... The nephew (14) trying to explain how good HL2 is to his Grandad (85yo) LOL

If they are going to ban violent video games, then why don't they just ban the whole entertainment industry, as well as the media. I can't even watch the news without hearing about someones unfortionate death, or how some dumb teenager decieded he wanted to go 90 mph in a car on a side street and killed 5 people. And these things have been hapening long before the TV was ever invented. This world IMO seems to be based around WAR and DEATH. Instead of sheltering people from everything, they need to expose them to it. Try and teach them the difference between right and wrong. This problem is as old, as when people started telling stories about hero's, and kids wanting to grow up to be just like them. It's impossible to shut out all the hate and messed up things in this world, and even if you could, how would anyone ever learn from that?
WEWT! Im a regular memeber now!

How is Manhunt below Half-Life 2 on the top 10 worst games?
I'm not going to debate this, as my standing has always been that banning violent games is wrong, but this just seems another attempt to gain attention to me. Newpapers in the UK do it, but rarely does anyone publicise their own thoughts on this without wanting to at least cause a vague level of attention towards themselves.
Now that is just my opinion, and I realise that religious standings on this sort of thing are quite strong, but with the fact that A) I don't believe in religion and B) The link between violent games and actual violence has yet to be conclusivly proved means that the only reason I can see for this is that one group cannot stand the opinions of others. I feel religion is ignorant, and as it was technically "created" all those thousands of years ago, they may wish to open up to the beliefs of others.

Yeah those lists are never right. Ripping open humans as an alien in AvsP2 is the most violent for me. First couple times it was disturbing. Now I enjoy watching people explode in a pile of bodyparts and guts.

Jagged Alliance 2 was a violent video game, and I love it. Of course, I haven't turned into a psychopath murderer yet. Or a mercenary.
I think banning violent video games will only increase demand for them. It's just like when you tell a kid NOT to do something--they want to do it right away..I bet the same would happen if violent video games were banned..

These sorta topics are always so wacky...Blame this person blame that person blame the game he emulated.....to be honest I blame the whole friggin human race we have all become ignorant in our responsibilities as parents, consumers ,game makers, and now look where its going....
Everyone is to Blame when are we gonna start taking responsibility as a society???
