"/friends add" feature

I have been reading about a new "friends" feature in Diablo II LOD. I have tried doing the /friend add command for some of the people I regularly play with. Each time I get the invalid message error. Anyone using this feature and have suggestions on how to get it to work? Who knows, maybe it has not yet been enabled for the USWest realm.

it shows when they anncounced TESTING of this feature on USEast (I LIKE IT!)
I have not seen any new news on it being enabled for any other realm yet ... so its still USEast only.
