Asetek 3.5" HDD Cooler Review

Systemcooling.com has a review of an effective hard disk cooling solution. Might be worthwhile for those with some critical data on their hard drives, or for those that want to add another year or two to its life.

I recorded idle hard drive temperature 30 minutes after boot. To heat things up I performed a defrag of the drive and recorded the highest temperature. The same procedure was used during passive and watercooled testing.

The watercooled setup included an asetek Black Ice Pro 120mm radiator, Sunon 12V 120mm fan, reservoir and a Hydro L20 pump. As you can see by the results the difference in Load temperatures between the passive and watercooled solution is 12 degrees Celsius. I must admit that I was not expecting this good of a result. I’m positive that such a great decrease in temperature will keep the hard drive operating smoother for a lot longer.

Cool product. Kind of pricey, but something like this might be useful if SATA drives get any faster than 10,000 RPM's with large capacities.
