Half-Life 2 problems
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have recently purchased half-life 2 and successfully downloaded and played it for several days. I later went into options on the game menu and upped the screen resolution, when the game rebooted it came up on the screen "signal out of range" but the game could be heard in the back ground playing. I can still get online games associated with Half life 2 but not the actual game itself. I have uninstalled the game and deleted all files in relation to it then reloaded it only to find the same problem..........any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think u made your resolution higher than your monitor can suppoirt. Can u go back into the settings and lower your resolution to a size that ur monitor can support?

What you mean? You bought it then downloaded it?

he means that he preloaded it with steam and then paid for it over the internet, I assume?
I preloaded it, but I never did buy it when the time came.

Thats the problem I can't get into the options to lower the resolution. I'm assuming that the change was saved in some file within valve or sierra so I deleted them and reloaded the disc. I didn't Preload with steam I bought the game then loaded it onto the PC, played it for a couple of days then stuffed up the resolution. Everything on the computer runs fine its just the game comes up with "signal out of range" but you can hear the game playing in the backgounrd.

@Jack Rose: try creating a shortcut on your desktop to the half life .exe file and add this tag at the end ( -sw)
i.e. "C:\Half-life 2\...\hl2.exe" -sw
This forces the game to run in a window. It might allow you to access the options menu and lower the resolution. I had the same problem but what I did was to run the game at a lower resolution which was not supported by my monitor, so this method might not work in your case.
