I tend to not believe in these sorts of things but my friend claims he got his in the mail.... I have yet to see it. I signed up for it with on of my dummy accounts just to see if its possible that it may be true.
Well check out the link tell me if you think it's a scam, you dont have to sign up... I have "friends" that I am using as guinea pigs.

three cheers for pyramid schemes
Posted by: Bobaroo
I have seen people get an IPOD. Where they signed up for the ancestory thing, and then canceled it before the 14days so you don't get your CC charged. And then you need 5 referals from other people and then your Ipod comes. Not worth it, one of those pyramid schemes
Posted by: Spork Lover
yeah it's a pyramid scheme..... it's just most of them havent been legitimate, if I can get a free Ipod for goat roping 5 of my "freinds" (dummyacounts) then so beit!
Posted by: C-Money
Its just like those a free* dell testing panel ads. You need to sign up for a lot of junk, to even be considered to receive one.
Posted by: Darky!
Some of the offers don't require a credit card as long as you don't use a free email address (hotmail, yahoo, etc) and are quite simple (Hint, ebay offer).
Still, theres not much to loose, except a few hours of convincing friends that it's worth it, I mean totally.
Anyway, I can't pass up a chance to get a 300$ item for free. I found this on PA a few days ago though, so I can't help you out spork, sorry.
Posted by: madman55
definitely bull%*$#. its like this: i used to use kazaa before ppl were being sued, and on the bottom left they had a window that was sumthin like" hit the xmen character shown on the screen and win a free xmen 2 dvd". its like that kind of $#$#.
Posted by: AK47
Hitting xmen characters is legal though. Pyramid schemes aren't.
ah well
Posted by: uh...ok
Ah, a link to the actual scheme. I got a dormwide email the other day with the following contents - without knowing what the heck "this iPod scheme" was since I didn't get the previous posts in the threat... Just in case any of you care...

Is there anyone here who actually thinks that this ISNT a scam?
Posted by: Darky!
Some dude got his: http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=149341
The only thing they get is the info you give them. Sure, they're going to sell your email address, but what do you expect. You're getting something for nothing, right?
And as I said before, some of the offers don't require a credit card.
Posted by: RAcastClarke
Haha, I saw an ad today which said "Punch the Evil Kangaroo and Win a Playstation 2 FREE!"
Yeah, sign me up.
What a load.
Posted by: uh...ok
This crap is spreading across the internet like the Blaster virus.
I'm glad the guys at SD still have their heads where they belong...

I signed up just for kicks, but, because of how my mail server is configured, I gave it a fake email address that would get to me. I've since then redirected that address to my "blackhole" address that is a nice little blackhole of crap mail.
Posted by: Ocean
compukeith, i would like a tutorial on what you just did.
Posted by: compukeith
My hosting company allows me to completely configure my web and mail server. I normally have my email address as a catch-all address so if an email is sent to a mailbox that doesn't exit, it's sent to me. This allows me to just make up email addresses without having to create them - very very usefull! I have another address called "blackhole@keithmcd.com" that i forward all my spam to - it's an email address that is never checked and has a very small mailbox size (1MB) so it fills up really quickly. I just set my mail server to forward email from "freeipods.com@keithmcd.com" to forward to "blackhole@keithmcd.com."
Pretty simple really. But, if your ISP or hosting company doesn't give up options like this, then it's just not possible. I use IXWebhosting.com as my webhost.
Posted by: madman55
what idiots. I sometimes think that theyre lazy damn asses.
Posted by: SKYHN
I decided to try some luck on this and signed up, did 5 fake refferals too. Just waiting on the confirmation now. If you do the ebay offer, you dont have to enter any CC info.
The internet has given me a lot of nice free stuff over the years, USB drive, FFXI /w Hard Drive for PS2, Numerous magazine subscriptions, porn, but this would take top honors if it showed up. And I hope its not the apple only version. Or are the new ones hybrid?
Posted by: Bix VT
Even if it was the apple only version, you could probably still sell it on ebay for a nice profit.
Posted by: SKYHN
Well yeah, but Im lazy I think the new ones are hybrid though.
And I do need an MP3 player. I nearly bought a Creative Nomad Zen Xtra 40gb a few weeks ago, but then realized that I didnt want to spend $240 on a thing that I would only use not even 2.5% of the capacity.
Posted by: Bix VT
That's the only thing that has stopped me from getting an MP3 player as well. If I took every cd I own and ripped them into MP3 format, they might take up 2-3 gigabytes. I'll just use my MP3 cd player, it works just fine (except for only 4 hours of battery life)
Posted by: SKYHN
What I want is a 2gb player for $99. There was rumor not too long ago that apple was planning to release a 'budget' ipod that was 2gb for $99, but it seems that was false. I have ripped all my albums and total they have been about 15gb, but after picking all the songs I want, theres only about 1gb of them. If a company came out with a 2gb player for that price, they would be very smart.
Posted by: Bix VT
I agree. I'd buy it.
Posted by: SKYHN
Argh, what did I do wrong?
"While you have completed all the requirements to get a free iPod, we have reviewed your account and referral offer completions and have placed your account on hold. We have determined that your referrals appear to not be unique users. Because we make money from advertisers who only pay us for unique users, we cannot credit you for these referrals."
All of them say "Refferal not approved".
Posted by: RAcastClarke
Well, they ARE fake, after all...
And how the heck did you get FF XI with the HD free?!?!

It's simple.
You made your referrals on the same computer that you used to make your account to begin with.
Next time, try doing it at a few friends houses on thier computers instead. I did.
Posted by: taco_fox
I've done myself and two fake referrals from the same computer and all three were accepted

Have you had all 5 completed?
They review the referrals once you get 5, and check for anything that might point to fake referrals.
EDIT: I mean 5 completed referrals.

Posted by: Canis Lupus
Thee, the next time you're too lazy to find a thread and decide to create a similar one, consider it deleted ... next time

Looks like I won't have to use freeipods.com after all
Posted by: Bix VT
Please state your procedure. http://www.darkintellect.com/redwench/Borg.gif
Posted by: Nfested
There is also something like the free Ipod that someone mentioned earlier. It's win-a-free-flatscreen TV. Here's the link (which would also be used to refer me):
http://www.FreeFlatScreens.com/default.aspx
Its the same pyramid-type thing as FreeIpod. Try it out if that's your thing.
Posted by: Canis Lupus
I would have to step in here and discourage anyone from posting direct referral links to pyramid schemes like this from now on... if you strongly feel you should have it, put it in your signature if you want, but please refrain from posting these links in your posts, or point to your signatures in your posts... the last thing we need is a topic that is filled with referral links, or multiple topics about it...
I apologize to anyone who feels this is too much, but I have to put my foot down while it's still under control... Spork's ipod link and Nfested's flatscreen link have been edited accordingly...

If you want to find out how to get a free ipod all u have to do is go to this website http://www.freeiPods.com/. IF you think this is a scam listen to this. CNN has said it is legit. Wired.com has said its legit. Tech tv has said it is legit. my freinds sister got one of this website and i have seen it with my own TWO EYES. It is legit. but i will admit that since so many people have heard about it, freeipods.com has become swamped and your ipod will be on "back order" but you should eventualy get it or you can opt for the 250$ certificate which gets to you quiker. All you have to do is sign up give a legit email and home adress. Then complete one of there offers. I just did the blockbuster free for 2 weeks then cancled after that. I lost no money. You DO NOT have to give your credit card number OR any MONEY to freeipods.com usually u give it to a well known and established company like the new york times and blockbuster and aol. If you are skeptical try it anyways, you dont lose any money. All you have to do is sign up, do one of there offers, and get 5 referals. How does it work? for every offer you do they get money, all the people u reffred make them money. and not every1 reaches the 5 referals goal making them money. The company has admited that when you do get 5 referals they DO lose money, but so many people dont it works out. So still think its a scam? Only one way to find out. TRY IT!
Posted by: FadedMaster
Wasn't this posted before? And didn't we conclude it's some kind of pyramid scam?
Posted by: SKYHN
It is a pyramid scheme, but you do get something out of it, its not a scam. Theres a couple of others run by the same company, Free LCD and Free PC. Theres someone on BBR that got all 3 and he posted pics.
I had my free ipods refferal posted for a long time and got a bunch of people to signup, but none ever completed offers so i just got rid of it.

Hey hokie, did you not read the part where Canis Lupus, the site Administrator, said "Do NOT post threads or posts with your direct referral link in them"?
You've already posted it here. I removed your referral. I also removed the other thread you started with this exact same post.
You're spamming the boards. One more time and we ban you.
Posted by: spiderjak
No direct referall links here... simply pointing anyone interested towards a Conga for freeipods so you *don't* have to post your referall link all over message boards. head to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thefreeipodconga/
if you're interested.
thanks for your time,

Hey
Check out this great site that is giving away totally FREE Photo iPods!
I've joined and I think you should as well.
It's a completely legitimate offer, and this company has already given away $4 million in FREE stuff!
All you have to do is join, complete an online offer, and refer friends to do the same. That's it!
Here is my referral link. To help me get my Photo iPod, click this exact link to join, or copy and paste it into a browser:

The same company that's been actually giving out free iPods and has been given the thumbs up from the likes of Wired and TechTV (both did stories on them, positive ones) has started a new giveaway. So if you already have an iPod, maybe you'd like to get a free Apple Mac mini. It's the new computer from Apple that's teeny-tiny and only two inches thick. Whisper quiet and very portable, it's a new phase of personal computers.
They've improved the sign up page since the iPod deal, reducing the steps to get started and giving you more options (16) to meet the requirements. (I went with the ink, since I ran out printing Christmas pictures, but many people are doing the free trial sign-ups then canceling to end up paying nothing at all.)
If you are interested: http://www.FreeMiniMacs.com/?r=13903324

Ive got like 50 people that have signed up from my link.
