Video card question

I'm gonna ask for this game for christmas and I was wondering if a ATI Radeon 9200 will run this game? I also have a question about the paypal, how does it work.

Paypal is an intermediary between buyer and seller (owned by eBay). If you sign up, you will have an account similar, on a rudimentary level, to a checking account at a bank. Paypal will hold whatever funds you choose to have in your account. This money can then be used to pay for goods and services provided by someoen else who also has a Paypal account. You pay merely by transferring money electronically from your paypal account into the sellers account.
You can choose to have Palpal draw the necessary funds from a registered checking account, from a credit card, or you can just maintain a balance with Paypal. To deposit and withdraw funds into your paypal account, you will need to have a checking account at a bank.
As for WoW on a Radeon 9200: Yes, it will run just fine. As for asking for it for Christmas, well, good luck. Unless you're living somewhere with a lot of retail outlets for purchasing the game, you're probably not going to find any copies for a while. You would have to order it online, and even then, your choices are slim right now.

I went to target and best buy today and saw a few copies there. I also saw what was called a game card there. I think maybe I should have bought the game myself if there that rare to find. I better go back tommorow then. I was also wondering what that game card was that I saw. Can you please explain.

It's 60 days of game time for $29.99. Instead of paying with your credit card, you use the information on the game card to pay for the online play.

Well I went back to best buy today and bought the last copy of the game. I was lucky that it was still there. So now I'm just going to leave the game card and the ATI Radeon 9200 on my christmas wishlist. If something should happen and my parents get me the video card but couldn't find the game card, I can still play the game for one free month right?
Posted by: Gunslinger
Uh, I dunno.
Is there a "one month free" promotion that comes with buying the game? I have yet to install it, and I have read nothing about such a promotion.
Posted by: wordno
Well the box says "First month of play included". I think that means that the first month is free.

Oh. I must have missed that part.
Hey, bonus.

To Clarify a few things:
Is WoW sold out?
Not in all locations. WoW may be sold out online or in your town, but it may not be sold out in someone else's town.
WoW is sold out in my town. Now what?
Try an online vendor such as Amazon.com etc. You can also call Best Buy, EB Games, etc in other nearby towns to see if they have copies. Make sure to call specific stores, as that is the only way to know if its on the shelf. And the places I have talked to won't transfer stock to another store, so be prepared to make the drive to the places you call.
Does it come with a free month of play?
Yes it does!
So I can play the game for a month without need of a Credit Card or Gamecard?
NO! You MUST have either a valid Credit Card or Gamecard to complete the activation of your account. What you can do, is have your parents (friend or someone who will trust you with a C-card) use their card to activate your account. Then they can cancel it, leaving you with the free one month period. Note: the name on the card does not need to match the name the account is registered.
Ok, now I have WoW. What Server should I play on?
Well, OTS Bomb Squad is a Horde guild run by Canis Lupus on the server Mal'Ganis. There is also a collection of good people playing Alliance on Aggramar. Rules of thumb for picking servers:
Horde = Mal'Ganis
Alliance = Aggramar
PvP = Mal'Ganis
Non-PvP = Aggramar
Hope this helps!

Question....
I want to use my first month free, then use a game card for the next 2 months then after that use a CC....possible?

I know this is off topic but I wanted to bring this to attention. I was on gamespot and I was reading user reviews of World of warcraft and came across one that made me a little nervous. Here it is.
"Today I bought World of Warcraft. I went home and installed it successully, then ran the game for the first time. The game asks you to create an account, and then launches an auto-patcher before you are allowed to play.
The auto-launcher successfully downloads the required patch, but when the installation of the patch begins, all havoc breaks loose. The patch installation program notified me of a corrupted file, but fails to mention if it was the patch or the installation that was corrupt.
I went onto Blizzard's techincal support forum, and discovered that THOUSANDS of other people were experiencing the same exact patching issue as me. Now mind you, I am an IT professional, so I would know if there was something messy with my computer. I ran diagnostics like crazy and came up empty-handed, and all of the hardware I have is supported by WoW.
The remedy given by the updater was to uninstall, then reinstall the game and try the patch again. I have tried this process 10+ times, which is extremely frustrating because the game takes a full hour to install. In addition, I tried all remedies offered by the near non-existant technical support on the forums to no avail. It is the consensus of thousands of people that the patch released by Blizzard on 12/7/2004 actually broke the game. There has been no response to this from any of the technical support methods available.
My advice would be to wait for a while to buy this game. Sure it has wonderful graphics, but it you can't even open the game because of buggy code, who cares? THOUSANDS of people are furious, because they are spending money monthly in addition to shelling out the $49 up front to purchase the game, and they can't even play it right now (going on 24 hours) because Blizzard broke their own game with a patch"
Has this happened to anyone yet? Is their a high chance that it can happen to me?

I didn't have problems with it ... installation and subscription were smooth and straightforward ... I dunno who the "thousands" of people were, but I personally didn't encounter any problems starting out, or after the patch... I've been playing it for three weeks now...
I would take that "testimonial" with a grain of salt until I see a link that proves THOUSANDS of people experience the problem... exaggeration is a bit overused in this industry...

And even if it is thousands, hundreds of thousands of copies have been sold. So, you're not looking at a representative group of people here. Thus, you can't buy into such a generalization within the realm of possibility.
Though I did have to fight the hour long install, I have had no problems after that.

does that single review even sound rational? an IT professional that doesnt sound like it has taken the time to read thousands of posts? and thinks 24 hours is a long time without access? id say the dude works in a warehouse moving pallets of computer parts.
if youre concerned that something fairly rare would happen to you, why dont you read the forums in question?

I must reiterate what Canis and Gunslinger said: the number of people who post on Blizzard's official WoW tech forum ( http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/b...ow-tech-support ) represent only a small percentage of the total player population and do not indicate the experiences of that population as a whole. Yes, there are quite a few posts there about various problems, but consider that it's been less than a month since the game was released.
The above also applies to the Blizzard-run Battle.net tech support forum, where the volume of posts sometimes make one think that a problem occurs much more often than it really does.
I also agree with redwench that one shouldn't immediately assume that an alleged "IT professional" really knows what they're talking about. I see a lot of those people on the WoW tech forum and many of them have eaten their words after discovering a simple solution to their problem.
Generally, Blizzard makes games that run perfectly on properly configured and maintained systems. However, I do agree with the author's observation that good help is very hard to come by on that forum. Typically Blizzard does not give "advanced" responses to common or unusual problems, and if a problem really is widespread, they do not tell the players the details of their investigation into it.
The likelihood that you'll have problems patching is almost entirely dependent on the following:
- Your system is malware-free
- You have disabled ALL non-Windows running background programs, especially antivirus scanners
- Your RAM is not faulty, its timings are at their defaults and there are no issues between your motherboard and RAM
- You are not overclocking your processor
- The hard drive you are installing WoW on is not faulty and if it's larger than 137 GB, the proper patch for your operating system has been applied (go to this link for more info: http://www.48bitlba.com/index.htm )
The above also applies to installing the game. These were my observations during the beta and they still hold true for retail.

Everything that was said about that user review ease my concerns, but this is my very first mmorpg I'm also a little worried about the server downtime. I wanna know if they are down a lot. I'm hoping that I get a new video card and the game card for christmas but I'm worried that once I get my account up and try to start the game that the servers will be down. Are server downtimes a problem like EQ2?
Posted by: redwench
server downtimes are a problem for any mmorpg, especially a new one. its pretty rare that theyre down often and long enough to be anything except an annoyance however.
Posted by: Gunslinger
I have yet to hear about servers being down because there was something wrong with them. All I've seen or heard about is downtime for scheduled maintenance, which is short and usually desireable.
And since I've been playing, the server I play on has yet to go down even once.
Posted by: TheHairyOne
I have seen a couple hard crashes. There was a host of servers that went MIA a day after release. However, its probably the second smoothest launch in MMO history.
The game is stable...very stable. Now the in-game support staff seems stretched pretty thin, but hey, you just don't need them very often.

The game installed smoothly on three different machines for me. There has been one minor glitch that didn't let me log on for about 20 minutes, they fixed it pretty quickly. Pretty much this is my first mmorpg and it has been great, would recommend for anyone.

Well now I got the video card so now I have to wait to see if someone in my family gets me the Game card, if not then I'll get it. But thanks for your help.
