Router LAN problems

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Darky!

My router seems to be interfeering with my network.

Let me explain.

Until a few days ago, I used to be able to access shared files and folder through my network. Then I moved my machine to go to a lan party, I came back, and my lan no longer works full-time.

I say full time because I've seen it magically work once or twice every so often

I've tried reinstalling drivers, I've tried chaging networks, everything I can think of.

My router is a Linksys WRT54GS Wireless router. This is through the wired ports on the back, I haven't tried the wireless conections, because I don't have enough wireless cards.

Did your machine use to have the LAN address assigned automatically?
What happened to 1 of my machines is that it used to have the LAN address assigned by DHCP, but then some service WinXP out of nowhere changed the address. Needless to say the address assigned was completely bogus and the machine went offline which obviously is also why I noticed there's a problem.

Control Panel > Network Conenctions > right click on your connection and choose Status > click the Support tab

If the Address Type contains the word "Private" (sorry forgot the whole term, the nightmare went away once I fixed the problem) then this could be the same problem.
--------
Assuming that is the problem and by "network" you mean you have another machine up and running and online you can fix it by overriding the address settings manually:

On your afflicted machine:
Control Panel > Network Conenctions > right click on your connection and choose Properties > On the General tab find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the middle box, click on it then click properties under that box > Click on Use the following IP Address

Fill in everything. Find all the numbers you need from a working machine on the same network. (except you want to use a different and available LAN address)
