Acer 1355LC Keyboard problem

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm looking at a friends Acer laptop as the shift keys (both right and left) and the control key are not performing the correct function. Left shift either creates a . or the string KNVD right shift either causes 2/ or pulls up the help console. The control key pulls up the spelling checker (in Word). I've reinstalled the keyboard, updated the drivers made sure its all in UK English. All the other keys seem to work OK. Could be hardware but I'm not convinced and I've also virus and adware checked the machine. I've also tried an external USB keyboard and it works with no problems.

if possible, remove the keys and see if theres crap under there. the right key especially is sounding like its got something caught. its not software if youve reinstalled the drivers.

I would have thought that if they were sticking you'd just get repetition of the keys and not a completely different function? I can't believe the cable is damaged as it's pretty difficult to get at.

it (right shift) is pulling up adjacent keys, isnt it?

Not really as it pulls up 2/ and not ?/ and the left shift function is even stranger.

my inclination is that the keyboard is malfunctioning, rather than windows. which means a replacement in a repair shop. as youve reinstalled the software, its next stop is a repair shop at any rate. checking for some odd crap underneath is really a long stretch, but is a bit cheaper
