Stupid slow pc? New Processor?

512mb kingston pc2700 (2ns 2-3-2)
Pretty much what i got right now. However I got doom 3 and some other games a while back andI cant get more than 25 frames at 800x600 at low quality. I asume this is because of the cpu.
Q: Would a Mobile 2500+ (overclocked), XP 2600+ or a semporon 2800+ make this thing run better. Ive heard the mobile 2500+ to be the best choice but my mobo doesnt allow for much overvoltage (only +6% option). Just want to know if i can get some better framerates as I thought the cpu didnt matter much in games but maybe im wrong.

the cpu certainly matters, but its unlikely to be the limiting factor on your computer. the low ram is probably the issue, particularly if youre not disabling everything before you play.

512mb is low. Though 512 was standard still but I guess everyones moved on to 1 gig or above. So then the real question is to get a mobile 2500+ or a 512 stick of ram. that would make it 786 or so mb of ram ....
The windows memory thing shows only 345mb of my ram being used during most games so i really have to wonder...
In NSFU 2 I get 25 fps no matter what resolution i play it on and vsync is off.

well, check to see what the settings are on your drivers. i find it hard to believe youre running xp and are only using 345 while youre playing doom. of course, if it consistently shows 345 being used, theres something very wrong. your ram usage should vary every few seconds.
a processor running at 2G is not the problem, unless you have a lot of other things cluttering it up. 512 is the minimum you can get by with for normal usage, its not going to give you good gaming performance on anything thats come out within the last couple years.

I think by low ram you meant being pc 2700 not 3200??

depends on the mobo.
512 will run doom 3 great at rez under 10x7, but only if you have a very fresh windows.
mobo have a 400mhz fsb?

Sempron is just the new "Duron" so it isn't tied to any particular core design or socket type. It has both Socket A and 754 models

semperon 2800+ = crappy thourobred for socket A
semperon 3000+ = Awsome overclocker that rivals the A64 3200+ for speed
My ram is overclocked from 333->400mhz
My Mobile 2500+ is overclocked from 1.9->2.6 or something
My windows XP is old install and slow and wont update..
Is there a way to reinstall XP or install windows 98 withoutloosing all my stuff on harddrive

Hi!
One way, is to have 2 partitions on your harddrive . One for Windows and other apps. And then one for your hardware specs and other stuff you wanna keep.
But always back up important things on CD though.
