I got a 4-ch.6-ch soundcard really just for the game port as I dont have 1, the card was only £1.50.
It is PCI and I installed it easily enough, but now my computer takes a real long time to boot up, if i remove the card and reboot the comp is up and running in mins, does any one know what i should do to fix the prob?
also when installing a sound card does it take away the ability to use your onboard sound and sound ports ie mic speakers etc?
I have a im845gl motherboard, 768 ram, 1.8 celeron processor. the sound card is a asonic l-8738-6c
any help greatly appreciated

You can use 2 sound cards at the same time.
As for your slow boot issue, something on the sound card is failing to initiate. Probably a DMA conflict with the onboard sound or something. Change the default value of the onboard sound in your CMOS. Also, make sure the sound card is not in the slot that shares an IRQ with the onboard sound. Should be in your motherboard manual.
