With its beautiful screen, visuals on par with some of today's console games, and multimedia capabilities, sony's playstation portable is launching an all-out-attack on the handheld market. And the company just dropped the big one,the machines price.Last month when sony announced that its slick looking handheld would launch in Japan December 12,it also revealed that PSP would cost 19,800 yen, which is roughly $185 american. The news was quite unexpected since the most in the financial community had for months been predicting a price of $300.I was very suprised at the cost of the PSP.And if history has taught us anything, you can expect an even better bargain when PSP heads to the United States. If you look at any consumer electronics launch, the price of the product in Japan has always been the highest. It'l retail for something lower then $185 here.A sony spokesperson tells us that all details concerning the US launch, including the price and the on shelf date, will be revealed some time after PSP's Japanese debut.(though she says that the handheld is still on track to release by the end of march 2005)So whats the likliehood that the PSP price will go all the way down to $150 and go head to head with the Nintendo DS?I dont think $150 is very likeley for the PSP,I dont see how Sony could justify its business model at that low of price, but then again, not to long ago people said that the PSP couldent cost under $300.So I guess we'll have to just wait and see.

They are planning on making a profit after a long time... £100 for those who can't be bothered to convert in the UK. It is a seriously good price, and I'm amazed at how they can do it.

The only real cost of making the PSP is R&D though, the actual costs to make the individual units are seriously cheap. When you think about it, if they believe sales will last for a long time, pricing it this low means they will simply have to sell more units.

Hmm.. That proberbly makes no sense to anyone.
