How did you come up with your Internet handle?

I happened to talk about this during E3, so I decided to just open up a discussion coz I am really curious.
Why do you use your internet hande and how did you come up with it?
Lemme start it:
I came up with "Canis Lupus" mainly because I love wolves. I collect wolf items all the time. And I have always used an alias that had something to do with wolves (my old internet handle before OTS was The_Azian_Wolf).
So I was playing Gabriel Knight II (Yep, a game with a werewolf in it), and I was fascinated by the scientific name of the grey wolf, which was canis lupus. Since my old nickname was too long, and it was more a cultural nomenclature rather than plain old bestial, I went with Canis Lupus, and I have kept it since.

I always like the name Kull from the old comic books series. When I came onto b.net, the name was taken. So I just added the "dar" to the end of it. That is where my name came from. Everyone calls me Kull anyways.

I switched around between 5 or 6 unimportant names before I played hexen, was playing the heirsiearch's seminary level and got throughly beaten down by a bunch of floating bastards firing green shit at me.
About a month after beating hexen, I figured it was time to settle down and choose a name for myself, so I swiped the name for the green bastards, Dark Bishop's.
one of the first times I encountered it taken was on battle.net, where I added the ~ in between it, which eventually became the `.
recently, I dropped the dark part, even though I still use it from time to time.

I got my handle from an old French school book character in grade school. When I first logged onto Bnet, I thought using my real name could be dangerous and up pops this name which I had previously forgotten. I have used it since, or variations thereof.

well canis we'll have to compare wolf stuff sometime cause they are my fav animals to. i bet i win. since i have my animal rehab license i have a black russian wolf at home. i got a cool knife to show you to. I thought of a couple of wolf names but in real life people call me the pepsi man that is my actual nick name. i use it for everything my internet, my bowling name to hehe. i do also collect pepsi stuff but comparing with laggy is more fun :P

Started out as Matrix, then too many LameOs started popping up with that name. One day in OTS, bunch of us were sitting around talking about wierd names and for some reason I chose MYBUTTPLUGSTUCK which migrated to LORD_BUTTPLUG. Don't ask me why. Can't remember though I think Foogar was there at the time. Also, had BALLSDRAGGNDIRT, HUNGLIKEA5YEAROLD, PLOWINGDIRT, and many others that I don't remember anymore.

Gerbilo started about 4 years ago...
we would always just add gerbils into common sentences in our english class.... soon, i would yell "when the gerbils hit the fan!"
so one day i was playing XtremeG with AK and i entered in gerbil for my name and hit O on accident at the end, i just left it.... from then on i just used it as a name, joking at first, but now it's all over the place, gonna get my license plate with it maybe lol.

Hmmm the very first handle I used, and I still use today, was/is Tanis Half-Elven... since back in '96 or so, in a local BBS run by the local newspaper, San Francisco Bay Guardian. The only person in OTS who really remembers me using that name is REV... and a few OTSers from ICQ who I used to talk to... (off the top of my head, I can only remember Duchess). Tanis Half-Elven was my favorite character in a fantastical fiction novel series called DragonLance... which I personally have a collection of over 40 books. (There's a lot more...) Tanis is still my email addy (tanis@jps.net) and has been my nick in Guardian Online and its spinoff, Mark Online.
"uh...ok" is the true Battle.net, because its debut was first on Bnet during my StarCraft days. How did I come up with it? Well, one day, I just thought how it'd be cool to have a screenname "uh...ok". So after procrastinating for a week, I finally created an account named "uh...ok". I've been using that name for Tribes, AIM (known as uhhhhh ok) and for general forums. And I recently changed my ICQ to "uh...ok" so no one would get confused. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

BTW the reason why people started thinking that my name is pronounced "You-Hawk" is because when I started playing Diablo... I was too lazy to think of a name. Origionaly I was Lotus14 on mIRC. Got the name from the game Magic:The Gathering, which was not considered nerdy around here when I was 14, which is where the other end of the name came from. Then I found out what a lotus was, ditched the name. I think then the since departed nightranger bbs popped into my head, somehow I got net and became NetRanger, been that for 3 years now...

I always liked the word Nova. Used it for all the console games I used to play where you had to enter a name. The very first time I logged on to bnet, after about 3 seconds and seeing nova23421345 in the channel, I tagged a Z on to it. Partially in homage to Dragon Ball Z, but mostly cause I thought Nova Z looked and sounded pretty damn cool <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
I haven't used much other names, except for Mageus X (Pronounced mahj-ee-us-ex) when I was going on bnet incognito.
Came up with a new one for MSN Messenger (since every variation of nova and nova_z on hotmail was taken... can't quite figure that one out). thereisnocharles. I think it kicks mega ass. And NO, it is NOT in reference to 'there is no spoon'. The Matrix sucked. It is actually a reference to ghostbusters. I tried charles@hotmail, and various other forms, but all were taken. So I thought "Crap, there is no charles". HA! And then I thought, "there is no charles, only ZUUL!".

i didnt know we were reffering to all of them hehe. when i started b.net i first had to think real hard and original and it had to be real cool to lol. it started as Angel-Of-Death. but then i grew a little then i got tired of thinking to hard and just used bands i liked like Guns N Roses. then i got tired of that and i couldnt think of anything. i mean for days then i took a drink and i was holding a carton of chocolate milk then i used that for a long time Chocolate-Milk hehe. but then i finally came up with The-Pepsi-Man and thats been it for the last couple of years i use it for everything i dont have to use my real name for. I also came up with White~Fang. cause wolfs are my fav animal and i liked the wolfs in the movies white fang 1 and white fang 2.

I afterwards found out I was born in the year of the Rooster, as well as several OTHER bird related things. Perhaps it was an omen when I rememberd that picture when I was searching for an original name..

Theemon, it is not pronounced Chalk-o. Think the first half of chocolate (choc) for the "Chak" part substituting the o for the a, and the first half of Koala for the "ko" part. String em together and you get the correct pronunciation anglicized.

Well my common name around here. The one that is known to everyone, the one I use everywhere. Is Blade, This all began back in the seventh grade when I wore a shirt with the name Blade airbrusehed on it. one of the school's hot shot was messing around with me one day. And said wht the hell is that for. Well I said,(which is the truth), that it was my middle name. And I had to pull out my ID to prove it. Since everyone I hung out with back then was a grunge. The name started spreading around school. And pretty soon it was the only one known. Eventhe ppl in the church I goto do not know my fist name. They all use Blade. Including my Teachers.
As for DemonBob:
I was messing around on a LAN playing starcraft in a 8 person FFA. And we all thought of stupid names. And the one I came up with was DemonBob. Because. This name was giving to me by my ex g/f's step sister. From a rap somg she heard. And it has stuck with me for some time. That is what I am know by over in the neighbor hood. lol Everytime I walk up. back in 1980 i started out with spectre .
then i changed it to death dealer .
at a certain point i was uploading duke nukem 3d at some bbs . i ripped it myself back then and i thought :"ripped and brought to you by death dealer" just sounded plain stupid .

well mine was pretty simple. Once, many many moons ago, i logged on to bnet as ~spliffy~ (booga still calls me that hehe). I had that for a very short time before i realised how lame it was (anyone from the UK will know why hehe) so i spent a while trying to think of something new. Eventually, Artanis popped into my head, and at the time, i didn't realise it was a character from SC. So i used this for a while, but eventually i realised it was a neame from SC and instantly hated it, lol <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> Anyhoo, Wargy had been calling me Arta for ages just as a nickname.. it's easier to type i suppose.. and it stuck. So, i regged Arta[TG] on bnet (someone already has Arta <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">) and changed my name on the forums and ICQ, and.. here i am. oh, and if it still says Artanis on your ICQ contact list, you should update my details <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

I first started out on Battle.net with "Motherboard" and then moved on to "DeadlyMissle". Those names seemed generic to me, so I thought "hmm, what's a good Starcraft alias.." and came to TotalRecall seeing how the arbiter can recall and I loved the movie. TotalRecall was taken at the time, so I used -TotalRecall- and Tota|Reca|| as my bot in OTS.
Now, I use it because I believe it rolls off your tounge well and can be easily shortened to "TR". I also use TheRecaller, BinaryMonster, BinaryVillian, and S33k4ndD35+r0y as other handles, but mainly stick to TotalRecall.

I just inherited the name Asmodai, as back in those days on b.net you didn't pick a standard handle for your account; there was no account. It was just the name of my Sorceror.
My other character was Beefcake, the Warrior.
The handles I typically use today are either EarLocust or Hatefist, it mainly depends on the game.

First time I logged on to BNet, I sat there and tried to think of a name. Kane popped into my head. That first night, someone asked me if that was my RL name. I said nope. And he told me that Kane was Celtic for Warrior which I was playing. It seems to have stuck.
When the new version of BNet with StarCraft came out, Kane was taken quickly. I figured Kommander Kane worked well with StarCraft and have used Kdr Kane ever since.
The truth is that this name isn't so unique and does mimick a true surname. I feel it may be felt as disrepectful to those with that surname. So, I have been working over something a little more unique.
The problem is, then nobody would remember me at all!

Well, I came to puters with a handle.. Bikers always have handles. hee hee - and you don't "pick" it, other bikers give it to you. I'm not sure the third person reference "her" was a handle, but that's what I was called for a while. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> But I quickly picked up the handle momser - cause I was preggers at the time.. and they thought it was a "cute" way to say "mom".. Little did they know "momser" in Yiddish means bastard. hee hee It tickled me and I kept it, and just rolled it over to online use when handles became the style (and no, they weren't always - way back when it was initials on bb's run out of someone's house).
If you need a pronounciation guide for that one - I have the phone number of a professional that can help...
When I needed more names for b-net chars, I added Sir Mom the warrior (never used it again) and Momus the mage (Momus is the Norse god of criticism, just seemed to fit). Added Mommage later as a second try at mage. I use Momus and Mommage - if they won't let me have 8 chars named momser... <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">
In response to those nagging questions left dangling on this thread.. Yes, Ellenoftroy can lauch ships with her face - she holds the champaign bottle in her teeth. Yes, I remember Tanis, and a host of other names that have changed over the years. MYBUTTPLUGSTUCK became LORD_BUTTPLUG when some lamer in OTS was pulling a "you got no class" rag on everyone as if they had "class" and we didn't.. I still laugh when I think of the Grand Entrance of LORD BUTTPLUG.. and the quick departure of the uncouth unclassy dude... And who the heck is KickingBird?? ;-)

Well... any handle that I use that has the word 'kitsune' in it would stem from the recent resurrection of my old Sega Genesis and subsequent entry into many things on the Internet that relate to Sega, Sonic and (more importantly and more in relation to this topic) his sidekick Tails. I also found that he was referred to as a kitsune rather than just as a fox. So, I attempted to adopt that as my B.net handle. First try: Kitsune (got rejected, somebody else has that name). Second try: KitsuneFox (Rejected, same reason) Third try: kitsune-fox (It worked, B.net accepted it) and so I use that handle on B.net and this board.

Umm, nothing fancy with my handle. Comes straight from a book and I named my favorite char in D1 with it. It so often got shortened to bin that when I retired my original char, I sometimes appeared as recycleBin, or hasBin.

my first delving into really having to name characters was with diablo. i literally sat there for 3 hours trying to think of a name for my rogue before i started smacking the keyboard at random to see what combination popped up. during one such smack i hit caps lock and saw JNN in the mess and decided to attach a vowel or two and ended up with JANNA for 2 years i seriously thought i had made that name up from scratch. who knew....

Anyway........De Freak came from War Craft II IIRC. At that time I was only bout 8 1\2 and I didn't know jack about anything heh heh. At that time I thought "Freak" would be cool. Then there was that thing on the Internet with everyone changing "The" into "De" "Da" and others. I considered changing it to De Phreak...Phreak coming from one of the earliest novels I have ever read : "Hackers"  .
Anyway....off to Diablo I. First time in OTS, I got flamed for some reason I can't remember. It was EskimoNoise and momser tho , that I can remember hehe. De_Freak became my first character, a warrior that soon died for lack of interest. I soon started a rogue called ~Layla~ cause I wanted to copy ~Di~\~Dianiah~, ~Tiny~, and a whole bunch of others (God knows where Di is now....) , and I had just started in a 50 person band\orchestra heh and Layla was plain goodness.
Yes it's unorginal , but I guess it's too late to change it now. On EverQuest I go by a few different names.....Freakication from Chili Peppers...Californication is still one of my favorite songs of all time. Frealik as a veriation of Freak........Freakili another veriation.
Well....There you go 3 paragraphs of spam hehe.

one of my first names was The Cleaner which came from the game Rise of the Triad. when you could choose a difficulty there were pictures next to it, the hardest diff was called "they call me the cleaner" and it had a pic of a creepy guy next to it.
i had that name for a while but i got really annoyed when ppl kept asking me if i could clean their room after the game and other dumb@$$ jokes like that so i changed it to The Boogyman (dont remember why).
then i started playing d2, i made a barb called TheCleaner, a necro called TheBoogyman and a paladin called Burger (hehe)(Burger was one of the random names in Worms2). they all sucked so i made my final char, a bowazon and i called her EvilSniper since a bow reminded me of half-life where you had that cool crossbow, and the name Sniper was (of course) already taken.
after hanging out on the bnet channels for a while i decided to make a bot, i wanted everyone to know that it was my bot so it had to be something with Sniper in it cuz EvilSniper was my final d2 char. i tried SniperII but (surpise surprise) it was taken so i took SniperIII which i still use.
only problem is that i dont like the number so i'm thinking about changing it (again), any suggestions?
i guess thats about it...
