Ad-aware + starcraft?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)
Posted by: slg
I'm not really a computer wizard (I barely managed 2 set up a auto-schedual)
Anyway, I cant make games in starcraft. Even if I lower all my security ( my virus scan, virus scan firewall, xp firewall, all broadband security) I cant seem 2 create a game,
I do have ad-aware and from reading sum of the other posts i think this may b the cause,
however I cannot find a way of lowering/disabling it.
Please help (without 2 much complex computer work if possible)

No, Ad-aware will not cause that problem.
Are you on cable or DSL? Is your computer connected to a router?

im on a wireless wanadoo broadband, Ive set it up and it seems 2 b working fine exept 4 this, I dont think i hav a router(its not mentioned)
Posted by: NegotiatorSmith
Is this a dedicated wireless connection? If it isn't and you have cable, DSL, ISDN, etc. you have a wireless router that you need to configure for hosting.

how will i know if its dedicated (1st time setting up this kind of thing)?

Can you describe how you set up your Internet connection, both hardware and software-wise?
Posted by: slg
My broadband has some security, however i tried disabiling this from the internet, it seemed to work fine and said that there was no security working at that time
Posted by: NegotiatorSmith
Are you saying that disabling this security thing allowed you to host?
If not, I still need to know exactly how you set up your Internet connection.

I have 3 computers running going into the wanadoo system connected into the phoneline, I have 2 computers connected wirelessly and one through cable. There are security settings avalible 2 be changed from the internet The wireless units work in encoded messages.

no it didnt allow me 2 host but many ppl cant host because of their firewall so i tried that

What is the name of the device that the computers are hooked into?
Posted by: slg
Its called the 'livebox'
Posted by: slg
sry im not sure i really know wat im talking about, but i'm vry gratefull for the hlp uve given me so far
Posted by: NegotiatorSmith
The "Livebox" appears to be a wireless router. I would be glad to tell you how to configure it for hosting, if it can be configured, but I can't find any in-depth documentation for it online. Do you know where I might be able to find the documentation?
Posted by: slg
no i can change my settings by clicking on a hyperlink saying configuration.adsl which takes me 2 this site where i can change the settings

thx 4 ur hlp.. i managed 2 do it
i used the idea about the router and enabled the dmvx (or sumthing) on the security settings
thx soo much I will definitely b coming back here and thanks far your patients

Glad to hear you solved the problem. You enabled your router's DMZ, which stands for De-Militarized Zone - all incoming traffic is forwarded to the computer in the DMZ (the one hosting SC games). If you continue to use the DMZ, please make sure that a firewall is enabled on your computer, as using the DMZ bypasses your router's "firewall".
