PS2 Problems

My PS2 will not play certain games, notably GTA San Andreas, an ATV game I bought for my son, and Smash Cars, another game for my son. They will sometimes play, but need to be restarted endlessly for the disc to read. This only happens with these games and they are all new (even bought 2 copies to make sure). All other games I own work just fine and start right up (Madden 05, etc.) My son is really dissapointed and frustrated these games never work. I tried a DVD cleaner. Nothing. Why do only certain games do this and how do I correct? Thanks for your time.

This sounds like a hardware problem to me, possibly the game contains a selection of code that your PS2 does not like. If you have an older PS2, you will also have older firm-ware that some games may potentially not like. I suggest you contact both Sony and Rockstar support lines to find out if there is anything you can do.
If it is a hardware problem, and your PS2 is still under warrenty, you can get it repaired for free (Or however much the Warrenty specifies you are required to pay). Apart from this, as the actual details of the workings of a PS2 are kept by the developers theres not much more I can really know about this. As I said though, get in touch with Sony and Rockstar to see what exactly you can do about the situation.
