my pc freezes when I'm doing almost nothing with it
programs I usually have running:
(internet) explorer, FlashFXP (ftp client), TopazChat, Winamp, Download Accelerator Plus, ICQ and DU Meter (download/upload stats thingy).
I usually had these running on my old comp (P3-450) too and that wasnt a problem

my comp:
ABIT KT7A-RAID
AMD Athlon 1333
512 MB pc133
40gig IBM deskstar 7200 rpm (x2 in RAID 0)
SB Live! 5.1
GeForce 2 GTS
Lite-On 52x cdrom, pioneer dvd, plextor writer

I probably forgot half the info you need but this is all I can think of right now

and thanks in advance for solving my problems again

My comp used to freeze when I was running minor applications or doing web work. I moved my sound card to a different slot, and it appeared to fix that problem (Another IRQ).

But, sometimes when I come back from being away, the computer has compelely froze.

There are lots of possible causes it could be. The first thng to do is insure everything is fully updated. From drivers, to all the windows updates. Drivers include VIA 4 in 1's, RAID controller drivers, BIOS updates, etc.

Other possibilities could be anything like overheating, power supply problems, memory problems, ACPI incompatabilities, etc.

I know someone who had problems with their Plextor drive locking up windows 2000. You might try disabling it for a while to see if the lockups go away.

If I had to bet though, I would say it's the RAID controller not gatting along with something. Usually the sound card. Moving the soundcard to a different PCI slot may help.

ok, I put the soundcard into a different slot and I'm trying it out now...

and yes, I know it took me 20 days to reply but I had some problems loading the site
