cpu usage high
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I am running XP, I have a Celeron 2.20 ghz, 768mb ram.
My CPU usage stays at about 97% and my system is really slow. I checked some other forum and I disabled my Mcafee virus program, but that did no good.
Does anyone have any suggestions. I am not completly computer literate so plain english please.
Thank you, Dano

run online virus and trojan scans, then download a couple spyware scans and run. disable unnecessary xp services, then checkdisk and defrag. re-evaluate after a reboot.

this might be a spyware problem. try clearing some of your startup items by doing MSconfig.
START>>RUN>> "MSCONFIG"
in the general tab, select SELECTIVE STARTUP then uncheck process system.ini, process win.ini, load startup items, load system services. click on apply, close then restart.
check if you still have the same CPU usage after doing this.

Go into the Task Manager, click the Processes tab, click View at the top, click Select Columns and check "CPU Usage" if it isn't already checked. Then, click on the CPU column once to sort the processes by CPU usage. Post what process is using the most CPU time.
