In my efforts to delete a "virus" [grandstreetinteractive], in Windows 2000, I deleted the main user and lost Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, settings, the whole works, is there way to Restore the Registry and get that information back, will a Systems Restore accomplish that?
I know in Windows95/98/ME you can just do a <regedit /restore> and that will restore it back to the last save date, but in 2000 that does not seem to be an option!

yes, a system restore will restore the registry as well. make sure you follow virus removal instructions carefully, particularly if registry changes are called for.

Thanks, redwench. Following the instructions is one thing, stupidity (in my case) is another. So here are a couple of stupid questions.
It sounds too easy, what should I look out for in the System Restore?
Will the System Restore ask for a backup file or just give me some dates (or a date) to select from?
It's not the problems you foresee it the unexpected problems that slow down production.

system restore may not work, for any number of reasons. it should just give you a table of dates to chose from, provided youve had it making backups, of course. at best, expect to get it back with the virus intact. any changes made inside the programs themselves wont be reversed, but it should restore user profiles unless you physically deleted them.
