i was installing windows 98 and then my computer when to scan disk to check out the drive. After the scan disk said i had an error that might make my system function inproperly so i fixed it. But then i got bombarded with all these errors relating to the fat accocation tables and directories n stuff. I tried fixing it but then all i got where more errors relating to my previous system windows 2k.

what i did:

(i did these steps in the windows 2k boot disk) / recovery console)
-formated c: to fat 32
-deleted old ntfs partition
-made new partition

(in windows 98 boot disk)
-tried to setup (c: setup) then everything worked and when it got to the scanning disk nothing happened then and error came up saying it could not make any file on the directory without an ms-dos partition (don't know what that mean)

-after i went to (fdisk) and make the first partition (windows 98) active then restarted.

- got bombarded with the errors in the scan disk.

i don't know what to do.. please help

partition, then format. use the 98 bootdisk for it all if youre going to install 98.

make sure one partition is a primary partition, and the OS is going there.

can you please explain it a little more? i'm not sure what you mean? i dunno how to make a partition in 98 and i dunno what you mean by make sure its primary / the os is going there?

edit: i've deleted all partitions and tried to create a new primary and its maximum size is 2.46mb is that normal?its 5% of my total drive* and i made and extened dos which is the rest 95%... is this how i set it up?

You are going to need more than 2.46 Mbs to install windows. If you're not sure about partition size, you can make the whole drive your primary partition. You don't have to split it up. Go here and read how to partition and format a hard drive using Fdisk.

After you have partitioned and formated the drive, try installing windows then.

how old is the drive? when a drive gets old it tends to get a lot of errors. windows 98 is also kinda "finicky", can your computer handle XP? 98 is old and has been hacked a million times over and is less secure.
