No "my Computer" working in Xp

Hi ..
A problem has just occured with my Windows XP ... Problem being that when I double click on the "my Computer" icon it goes to open ...unfortunately it then appears to hang and be searching for the contents of my computer ...with nothing ever appearing ... I would be grateful if anyone could shed some light onto this problem.

are you using a lot of mapped network shares? can you start windows explorer (r-click on start)or from programs~?

try clearing your startup applications using MSConfig. if this doesnt work, try doing a system restore or run sfc /scannnow.
