Hey, wanted to know about mod chip getting installed in a Xbox, i dont have chip yet just Xbox. I want the mod chip as i wanna play ps2 games and others on my xbox plus play any dvd etc i want. Also ive been told sometimes a technician will install a larger hard drive for the xbox when you install a mod chip to save more games, music etc on the xbox itself.
Does anyone know a good kind of mod chip to get plus what other things i might need to know before getting my mod chip put in. I know someone who does them and puts them in but ill have to wait for awhile. Any good sites anyone can think of on help about Xbox chips?

I don't think OTS can endorse the use of mod-chips, given the legal dispute over them varying from country to country. In some places, they are perfectly legal, whereas in others you can be fined thousands for having one.
As for playing PS2 games on an Xbox, that sounds like an emulator job to me, a mod chip cannot do that on its own. Anyway, if you can get them legally where you are, visit http://www.modchip.com/xbox/ for a selection of some chips. I would think the solderless versions are proberbly best myself.

Whats a emulator?

An emulator is a tool that allows one gaming system to play games for others, that normally cant be played on it. An example of an emulator is ZSnes for the PC, that lets you play Snes ROM's on your PC. The legalities are very vague though, to konw when it is actually legal for you to emulate.

Also if you don't already know, you probably should know now that if you connect to Live with a chipped console you will be automatically banned from the service which is pretty much irreversible without purchasing a new box, unless, of course you know the ways around it.
However, there are chips now available which apparently will not allow you to connect to Live with the chip enabled, and disabled, your box will act like a normal Xbox.
If you plan to use Live with a chipped box I would suggest you be very careful about it; recently some modded boxes were banned not for going on Live with an enabled chip, but for merely having Halo 2 save files before the official launch.
The "safest" way that most people used before the new chip was available (and some still do), was to just buy 2 xboxes, one modded to use as a media center, the other for Live. A separate, modded box just has almost unlimited capabilities though, I have seen them hooked up to projectors running cinema-sized films; I have seen them stuck in both tabletop and upright arcade cabinets running MAME arcade and all sorts. Quality!
