Xbox live problms please help

Right I've bought an Ethernet cable it's an Fast cat 5e the one with broadband sharing and my ISP is tesco its a usb modem 1.1mbps oh and I've got windows XP. So I plugged the Ethernet cable in the computer and the other in the Xbox so now what do I do?

There should be details the come with your Xbox live starter kit as how to get a connection working between your PC and the console. I've never networked an Xbox like that, but I have found a guide to getting Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) working, which is exactly what you need. are you using a router too? i have my computer and xbox plugged into a router that is hooked up to my cable modem and it works fine. i'm using mac filtering so i had to add the xbox's mac address to the list of allowed addresses, but once I did that it worked fine without me having to do anything else.
