Help PS2 Problem

I recently purchased a PS2 for my son. When I hooked it up and turned it on the screen of the TV constantly rolls. If I had one of those old TV's I would adjust the vertical/horizontal control knob. I verified that it is not the TV by connecting the VCR to the TV and was able to get a clear picture with the screen rolling. Has anyone experienced this problem before and any possible solution would help. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I Apologize if you tried this already but:
This will happen if the video cable is even the tiniest bit loose in the back of the machine. Try unplugging it and securely putting it back in.

how exactly is the ps2 hooked up to the tv? they can get pissy if they're not hooked directly into the tv (such as through a vcr or dvd player). have you tried the ps2 with a different tv?
