No Signal to monitor.

So I've got this old Campaq presario that origanlly ran on Windows98 that I decided to tinker with. And I put a new HD in it that seems to be compatible (Champ 1.3GB). But when booting up the comp and the monitor, the monitor only has this screen saying "No Signal". I've reconnected the cable and checked the Video card a couple times, but nothing worked. Any suggestions to gettin' this monitor to work?
-thanks!

its incredibly unlikely to be the monitor if its displaying that message. but test it on another computer anyway.
if its not the monitor, the problem could be with any of the core components of the system. is it passing post?

I checked the monitor with another comp, and it works fine. What could be some possibilities of things wrong with the comp itself? and what do I do to fix them?

the basic, although not total, list:
psu
cpu
motherboard
video card
cable

I would guess the video card is the most likely suspect from RW's list. If you have another comp, you could try swapping the video cards.

Did you ever get resolution for this issue?
I am experiencing the same thing with a Presario S4000V desktop whereby after normal power off, the PC is not waking up the monitor from standby mode. If however I power off and restart within 30-60 secs, it comes up like a charm.
I swapped out monitor and the problem remains.

This is a compaq mobo problem. All of my relatives who, foolishly, purchase Compaqs wind up having to deal with it. Check the Compaq site for bius updates. I always windup disabling the power down stuff for the monitor on those systems, meaning I go into bios and disable it there.
As to the orignal post, when you installed the hd, you may have knocked something loose internally or reseated something incorrectly. You also may have damage the graphics card when you inserted the hd.
