I got an old Gateway 300Mhz. I replaced the Hard drive with a 20gig Maxtor and got the Mitsumi CD-ROM drivers on but when I begin to install a full version of WIn95 it hangs in the Blue Setup screen. The Gateway has 64Mb Ram and the old hard drive would not format so I just replaced it. Any ideas? Shall I try a new OS full version?

Personally, I'd say to just ditch Win95 and go for AT LEAST Windows 98 SE if you can still get it... You can also go Win2K but then you would have to upgrade your RAM to 128MB for it to work decently...

Your windows 95 needs to be the 'OSR 2' version, that supports large harddrives. If your win95 doesn't support fat32, you'll have to partition your 20gig harddrive in to 10 2 gig partitions.

Thanks for that info NovaZ. I've still running the old Win 95 and that 2 gig limit is quite annoying. I didn't know that OSR2 got around it.

Dave777...get yourself Win98 2nd edition. It is much better in all aspects (support for USB also~you can buy a cheap USB PCI adapter card that will give you 2 USB ports, but you need the support from your OS to use it)....and you won't regret it. Stay away from Windows ME because I have had many a heartaches trying to get it to work on older equipment...but it works nice on newer systems and is what I am using right now. Win 95 OSR2 will be hard to find because you can't buy it off the store shelf anymore.
