According to this news article, bullying on the Internet is a new and terrible problem.
We all know about high school bullying but have you heard of cyber-bullying? It's real and three Loranger High School students have been arrested for it. As WAFB's Marie Centanni reports, student bullying may have gone too far.
Investigators with the Attorney General's High-Tech Crimes Unit say the situation started when a 15-year-old female student created a website called "Loranger's biggest queer.com." The website featured pictures of a 14-year-old male student. He responded with his own web site, which investigators say included a list of students he called "The Preps," and poems so graphically violent, investigators say "they crossed the line."
Kris Wartelle with the Attorney General's Office said, "It sort of was like bullying on the Internet that got even worse, and we're lucky it didn't escalate to something even worse."
After seeing the boy's website, a concerned parent alerted the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office. The Attorney General's High Tech Crime Unit was contacted and began an immediate investigation. Authorities confiscated the student's computers.
Both students were arrested, as well as 18-year old Joseph Sanchez, who was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Authorities say Sanchez helped the younger male set up and maintain his website. The pair called themselves the "8-Ballas," and targeted students they called "The Preps."

Um ....What were the 2 young kids arrested for? Freedom of speech? If they only had websites with counter acting each other where does the charge come from. And where are these parents? The ignorance in these kids is crazy. You think their parents would have taught them something.

Actually, I've read the response from the second child's mother in the local paper. She says that the accusations are greatly exaggerated. It seems the first boy, and some of his friends, have been bullying the second boy for some time, and the school officials knew and did nothing about it. Maybe this was his only way left of reaching out. Of course if he was writing sadistic poetry about how to get even, that's wrong and another matter.
Yes. Jesus is the answer! Amen.

Come on, this is the exact same thing that happened with Columbine.
Kids were being bullied(the second kid) and the admins knew about it, did a rebuttle against the bullies(the first kid), except this time it wasn't as drastic as Columbine, and the first kid gets in trouble.

Well, not knowing exactly what was on the site, or exactly in what manner all the bullying and name calling developed, we can't really make that judgment can we? I mean, nobody was there, other than the people involved, to say who said/did what and when. I can tell you, I was bullied quite a lot in school, especially in grades K-6, and quite often the faculty, instead of doing something about it, was at times involved in the problem. Don't get me wrong, I was no angel, I did my share of wrong to fellow students, for which I am deeply sorry. However, I do know what it feels like to tell the principal, councilor, or teacher that you need help with a fellow student, etc, and they just shrug it off. Then when the situation explodes, the person who was the victim to begin with gets in just as much or more trouble as the perpetrator.

if there was good communication between the parent and child, perhaps there could have been some kind of intervention. and Taliban, i got one thing to say to you...
Amen, brother!

bullying is bullying wether it be in reality or cyberspace you just should not do it.....and your right...those kids at Columbine were picked on because of the GROUP they were in...in retaliation they shot up the school...this case ended nicely and without any harm coming to anyone....the kids got their computer taken away and most likely got slapped with some community service......will this help....I doubt it really but you never know...... I feel jail time is needed

jail time is needed over calling someone gay or writing violent poetry? come on, where do you live?
Posted by: Sn0w
Maybe my words came out wrong what I ment is a taste of Reality one or two nights in jail
you say jail time would not be suitable for such a crime....yet these are the sorts of things that make a person in the end....the kid in the corner who is always picked on and nobody helps him turns into the kid that shoots up your school......I am not saying that just because someone is picked on they are gonna go nuts some ppl have certain fuse lengths.........but to play with matches near such things is not a good idea you may not have time to stop it
Posted by: redwench
if we went with your theory, every time we found a kid playing with matches, we would lock them up for 6 months for arson. or every schoolyard fight would lead to a life sentence because they might murder someone someday. for that matter, might as well lock everybody up. just in case.
i have this silly notion that the justice system is supposed to address what someone has already done, not what they might do 10 years from now.

lol you must be getting the impression that I wanna lock someone up first sign of trouble.....all I am talking about is making an impression on the child in some way let him know that if you do this that this will happened........sort like training a dog....

lets see:
arrested
suspended/expelled
computers confiscated
looking like idiots on national news wire
what exactly is lacking in making an impression?

Damn. Considering evereything that went on at my high school, an insulting web page is minor league. The only difference is, it's out in the open where everyone can see it. There are a lot worse things that happen in HS than this crap.
