How long do you wait before something shows up on the screen? And yea, if it's under warranty then I'd call up. This doesn't sound like the common Disk Read Error. Is this with all games? Purple colored bottomed ones? Clear ones? How about audio disks?

no unfortunately its not under warranty

it just happened yesterday for the first time...i tried several disks...games and dvds

the sony playstation screen comes up as per usual...and then instead of going straight to the game...the browser screen comes up instead...then i press X and a screen comes up "NO DATA"

thanks

How long did you wait in the "No Data" screen? I know that I would get that sometimes too, especially since my PS2 is just about 4 years old. It seems it takes longer to load games as they age.

it doesn't move from the no data screen...my son is freaking out on me over it. is there some way to clean the lense?

Hm. Well, you can use one of those lens cleaning kits out there. I wouldn't personally recommend it though. I had to replace a CD Drive shortly after using one. But you can take it apart if you feel comfortable doing that and clean the lens with a clean q-tip. There's some guides online for fixing the "Disk Read Error," but that doesn't appear to be what your problem is.

You can try cleaning the lens, if that does not work then your lens itself might be broke. I'm not sure how you'd go about replacing something like that. Haha. G'luck.

this is very strange...now it will play psone discs but not ps2 discs

i had same prob it was dvd laser or moduel call sony and see mine was not under warenty and they fixed mine

Yea, it's a big issue with the PS2s. They fixed them in the new ones released. At least, that's what I heard. Try Sony though. I've heard you hafta be persistent to get them to fix it out of warranty.

How many discs are you trying in it before you give up?

(i find inserting the disc, pressing reset, hitting it 3 times, resetting it and trying again)
(It works for CD-r's when used in my ps2)
