Ipod Driver and Itunes Software Problems

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just got an Ipod, and ever since I installed the hardware and the Itunes software my computer just randomly shuts off. The last time it did it it said my system had recovered from a serious error caused by a device driver, I'm assuming from the Ipod. I have Windows XP and an AMD Athlon 4 processor. Anyone know any solutions to this? I can't transfer any music to my Ipod because my computer keeps shutting off in the middle of every transfer!

Does your computer have an issue with overheating? This is a probable cause. Either that or some aspect of your system does not conform to the iTunes system requirements. If you provided more information about your system, we could get to the bottom of this.

no, no problems with overheating. My computer is an HP Pavilion N5425 (laptop) with 495Mhz processor and 256MB RAM. That's about all I know about it really. It's about 2 1/2 years old. Windows XP home edition. Like I said, each time I plug in my Ipod and start Itunes (sometimes even if I don't plug in Ipod but Itunes is started) it turns itself off. It doesn't restart itself, it just goes off. Sometimes it will take a long time before it shuts off (like once I transfered about 300 songs before it did it) or sometimes it does it as soon as the application is launched. I've seen other people describe this problem on other forums but noone seemed to know how to fix it. BTW, thanks for the quick reply.

OK, I'm not really a big iPod user... BUT from what it sounds like, there is definately some sort of incompatibility issue with iTunes and Windows. I suggest you call Apple and ask them about it.

make sure you have the latest windows service pack installed. MS normally brign out patches for their OS to go with new btis of technology like ipods. It might be that your os isn't liking the drivers. Also try downloading new Ipod drivers from the apple site.
