Minor Windows App Problem

Hey,
I just noticed this, though given what's been going on with my computer, i could have happened days ago. On some of the programs intergral to windows - Media Player, Solitare, Notepad among others - the menu tabs (file, edit etc) have small white boxes around the text. Then, if i open the menu tab, the entire tab turns pure white and stays that way. It isn't affecting all programs - word, Internet explorer and others are fine. No rush, unless it could cause my computer to sponateously burst into flames. If that is the case, screw the forum and come to my house with a fire extingusher!
