codec based sound problem??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

hi,

recently installed the ACE Mega Codecs pack, rather stupidly since I dont really know what half the things included in it do (well ok, 95% of the things included). Anyway, all installed, from a video point of view its great, can't find anything I now cannot view.

The problem is the sound, which now sounds like its being played off a casette tape thats slowly being chewed up slowing down and speeding up sporadically sometimes descending into fuzz. this is happening for all video sound as well as all music formats.

Unfortunately the codec pack isnt exactly the easiest thing to uninstall, so I'm looking for advice on how to troubleshoot it and then hopefully fix it.

if it will help, using MVSoft PCinfo:

-toshiba tecra S1
-SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
-MOBILITY RADEON 9000 (32.0 Mb): 1024 x 768 - True Color (32 bit)
-Windows XP Professional U.S. English 5.1 (build 2600 Service Pack 2)
-512 Mb (523 760 Kb) SODIMM1: 256 Mb SODIMM2: 256 Mb TSOP3: 32 Mb(EDRAM,1ns) TSOP4: 2 Mb(VRAM,1ns) FlashBIOSCN11: 4 Mb(Flash,1ns)
-Pentium M processor 1700MHz 1690MHz (L1 cache: 64.0 Kb, L2 cache: 1.00 Mb) Ext.clock: 133 MHz
