Alrite, for some reason unknown to me, my music files have been skipping a lot. At first i thought it might be the cheap headphones i was using, but i tried the speakers and it still does it. it just started recently and i have nooo clue why. im using Winamp 5.06 on Windows XP and most of the music i have the cds for. is there any kind of virus that could do this? and what the helll should i doo? thanks.

try using another player first. are you talking about mp3s? see whats running on your computer while trying to play them. on my old system, if i had a lotta junk goin, my mp3 player (winamp) would stutter like you say when the system was processing alot of stuff at once.

like 95 percent of them are wma format, and those were the ones that were skipping. and ive always used winamp and it never really skipped like this. and before when i used to play games on here it skipped when it was loading up the game, so i understood that, but now its just skipping out of nowhere. but it seems to have slowed with the skipping for a bit, so ill just see where it goes from there. thanks for the help.

As crazy as this sounds, change your player just as oderus1671 said.

I know everyone is gunna hate me for this, but try the windows version of iTunes.

I have had iTunes from the day after i got Xp pro and i have had no problems with it.

It was built specifically for MP3's and M4A's (It also works for iPods)

it is a 20Mb download and comes with Quicktime from this site:

also run a spyware checker, antivirus too. spyware will run in the backround and you wont know it is. sounds to me like you have a lot of stuff running. whats in your startup folder? system specs?

Certain winamp 3rd party output devices have been known to lag up winamp make sure you use the proper sound out plugin that came with winamp

Also certain sound writing plugins for winamp have caused my computer to become very very slow and make the music skip repeatedly mostly ones from LAME

itunes has a good codecs for encoding mp3s wavs etc etc

turn your winamp setting to default....or play with them a little read descriptions carefully

running alot of programs at once can do it

A lot of Media players can function with zillions of programs open at the same time.

For example: I run iTunes in the background while playing UT and it works perfectly.

What are your sys specs?????

hang on, Hold the phone!
Try this setting, if it does not work change it back because it might cause system lag.

right click 'My Computer' and click on 'Properties' and click on the 'Advanced' tab.
next, click on the 'settings' button under performance and click on the 'advanced' tab.
change the processor scheduling setting to 'background services' then exit all windows and try running Winamp.

If it does not work then change it back because it might cause system lag.
