Mic static

So I play a game that has in-game mic system and I plan to be using my mic a lot more in the coming days. My old headset blew so I went out and bought a recommended nice Plantronic mic. From what I've heard from friends, this mic is great and works awesome. However I had the same problems I did as my old $3 headest.

There is a background noise that is really irritating. It's hard to describe but it sounds it's scratchy and the pitch goes up and down. My room is completely silent except for my computer fan which is a bit on the louder side but still shouldn't affect my mic as it's below my computer desk.

Hmm, I'm not home right now but I think I'll be able to record the exact sound it's making and maybe that will help describe my problem better but then again I doubt it.

My soundcard is a Creative SB LIVE! 5.1 so I doubt that is the problem. I mean it really might just be the fan but I don't know, was just curious if someone could help me. It might be my volume settings or my web-cam mic that's interfering? Or could it be some metal in my room?

Thanks in advance for help
