CD/DVD issue (home theater style)

It's not a computer, but I'm at the end of my rope trying to figure this stupid thing out. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and similar problems have probably happened with system drives.

I've got a Pioneer XV-HTD520 theater system that won't play CD's anymore. DVD's are fine, but it's just not reading the CD's (they spin up, you can hear the reader skipping back and forth, then the drawer opens). I can sometimes force it to read by constantly reclosing the drawer and making it spin up again. Do it enough times, and it'll read. Sometimes. But that's not a real solution, is it?

Manual says there might be too much humidity, but I'd think that would affect the DVD, too. I've unplugged it, reset it, run a lens cleaner, and tried to get through to Pioneer. No luck all the way around.

Any thoughts? The thing's only about a year and a half old, and in that time has played maybe 50 dvds and an equal number of CD's, so I'm really not in to buying a new one.

Thanks in advance.

Just as a thought also make sure the cd's are clean, or try a brand new cd.

Yeah, did that. New ones, old ones, burned ones. Bupkiss from all of them. Of course, once I get one to play, it'll pretty well cycle through all of them. Which leads me to think it could be a software issue, but that's all hardwired, right? A reset shoudl have fixed that issue. It didn't, though.

It doesnt really make alot of sense since it seems intent on being able to read dvd's for some reason it seems that the dvd/cd player is probably picking the cd's up as invalid media, maybe have a look in your manual FAQ , potentially they might adress something similar in there. Otherwise i would say take it to the store you bought it from and explain the issue. Of course as Murphy's law, youll get there and ittll play any and all cd's perfectly :P

Too true, Murphy's Law.
Unfortunately, we got it at Best Buy, and it's well out of warranty by now.
I'm thinking the Hammer Approach might work.
Or perhaps the Drop Kick.
