Faulty modem?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I recently purchased a P2 and have had troubles with the modem....or lack of speed online anyway.
Once online, pulling up to 44kbs, the computer/modem just plain stops for about 45 seconds, then starts up again. I dont get kicked off..just that transmit/recieve speed suddenly dies. Once it starts up again, it'll last a few minutes before it stops again.
I'm using a Softk56 Data Fax Voice Speakerphone CARP set at 115200 and have tried it lower with no difference.
I'm thinking that it's really not the modem and have tried checking the phone line, but no difference. Could my AVG antivirus be a factor in this?
Your suggestion(s) would be...? Thanks for the help.

Modem driver (software), firewall, damaged OS and telephone line are the most common problems with analoque modems.

Hooked up an older pc I had...runs ok, so guess it isnt the phone line.
Have AVG..unsure yet if thats a problem or how to know. I did disable
it, but then other programs wouldnt run.
Damaged OS....not sure how to check that either.
Modem driver...I did find, under system info/problem devices
that the driver is not operating properly, but it's the wave device
for voice modem driver that, in checking modem driver sites,
nobody seems to be able to find it on their system in doing an
updatel driver. I've tried Microsoft and other web updates on
drivers, but no luck there either.
Thanks for the input..I'll keep digging at it.

Well, there sure are a lot of drivers there, but it took me over an hour to just find the manufacturer of mine,as I could not find any reference to that on my computer.
As I bought this pc used, I have no original disk for it, so thats my "as is" dilemna.
I'm on page 6 of 44 now, attempting to find my particular driver, so I'll see what the next search hours bring. (Wave device for voice modem) From what I've seen on modem drivers, this is supposed to be a tough one to locate.
Thanks for the site info. Onward to page 7.
